So all this Kobe appreciation lately has got me to thinking about how when Kobe is long gone and our kids have kids, how hard it's going to be to fully explain the depths of Kobe's greatness.
It's like the same thing how we really can't appreciate the Bill Russell's or Elgin Baylors etc cuz we weren't physically there to see them play. And videotape just won't do it.
There's gonna be a new young superstar that our kids love. But we are gonna know in the back of our minds that Kobe at age 23-26 would DOMINATE ALL.
honestly, the really only comparable player greatness wise to kobe, is mike. Mike is still really appreciated, but as far as the younger generation, who don't even know whom A.I. is and think they're wearing sleeves because of dwight, then yea, the future, selling the idea of kobe will be tough. you figure, mike has been out the last 10 years, only people even speaking of him now are the older and 20-somethings. this new age, when you say best ever, 'ever' to them is 00' and onward. So most will say kobe or bron. they'll be like magic who? that big guy that always states the obvious? he hooped? for who? nahhhh. Just the way it goes. But I feel as long as analysts and commentators and statisticians bring kobe up when they mention mike, it'll further his legacy. mike is regarded as greatest ever, some folks like
CP (Ska) will argue with magic in that scenario, and by just doing that it furthers the memory of both. Then you're forced to produce stats and vids that prove or disprove statements, possibly making new fans in the process. My kids will for sure know of the legend of #824
