2013 College Football Thread (Realer than Real Deal Holyfield -->S/O Craftsy)

naw i think dude really got catfished, im laughin like hell but im kinda embarrassed for him. but if he made all this up tho dude is an awful human being
Yeah right. There's too much **** that doesn't add up for me to believe he wasn't in on it.

Damn Te'o.

It was all good just a week agooooo!

2010-2011: Te'o and Kekua are friends. "She was gifted in music, multi-lingual, had dreams grounded in reality and the talent to catch up to them" (South Bend Tribune). "They started out as just friends," Te'o's father, Brian, told the Tribune in October 2012. "Every once in a while, she would travel to Hawaii, and that happened to be the time Manti was home, so he would meet with her there."

:rollin But he got hoaxed!

So the fake girl stuff is wrong, and he gets what he deserves there.

BUT

If he is gay, and Deadspin just blew up his spot like that, is that really fair to him? Should media be able to do something like that? I mean, if that does get found out, talk about life changing in terms of his future, his profession, all that, he could be in for a world of scrutiny, worse than making up a hoax, way worse. :\

He kept the lie going.

Check his interviews.

He's fair game.

and wow ESPN sat on the story too. BigLead says ESPN has known for 10 days

Whatever.

That's coming from someone who has a gay brother and is tremendously sympathetic to the difficulties gays and lesbians face when coming out. You can't claim your "girlfriend" was in a bad car accident, then gets diagnosed with leukemia, then dies. You just can't. No respect.

This is wild :lol

ESPN just replayed his interview where he says "she was the most beautiful girl I've ever met"

I'm sitting here like

He didn't seem ayo in real life, met him and seen him around plenty of times... Whatever, just cause you don't act like it, doesn't mean you aren't

But he killed her off. THAT's the problem. It's one thing to have a fake girlfriend, but then to kill her off the day after (or before, the story varies) that your grandmother died is some next level sick ****

There's ways of hiding your gay without doing all of that.

Shady family bruh, they ain't well liked in the homeland. His whole recruitment was dirty, so yeah, don't mind him being a laughing stock.

ya ok.. USC fans get bitter about anything.
seems there is a "BYU" story about te'o and his family its not just USC
They questioned his religious dedication and morals and whether or not he was willing to adhere to the honor code.  Bronco had some weird quotes about it years ago.
BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall opened up at media days about why he thinks that BYU lost out on prized recruit linebacker Manti Te'o, he eventually signed with Notre Dame. When asked the question if BYU was close to signing Te'o, Mendenhall's response was "I don't think we were close."

Mendenhall feels that it was something that was unrelated to playing football at BYU, but rather hinting that Te'o turned down BYU because Mendenhall's urges players to go and serve a church mission. It seems from reading Mendenhall's comments that he was not just urging but made it seem that if you are of the religion then it is your responsibility to go serve a mission.

Here is exactly what Mendenhall said:
"I am going to try to stereotype as best I can, so I protect their family and BYU. Usually when a young man who is LDS -- a member of our church -- has things presented as clearly as he had it presented to him and choses not to come, there usually is a reason they don't want to come."

"And it is usually not football-related. And so Manti chose a private institution, with a religious background without truly the same semblance of rules, or an honor code, like BYU has. It would be great if we don't go into specifics, but my guess is there was something that he didn't want about BYU, and chose elsewhere. And that's OK."
Is Mendenhall also saying that Manti Te'o did not choose BYU because of the honor code? Personally I do not think that is the case, but rather his decision has to do with the suggestions coming from Mendenhall himself of Te'o serving his church for two years away from football. Then with his visit to Notre Dame, head coach Charlie Weis made sure he was comfortable and found a local Bishop for Te'o to meet.

Maybe ESPN did the noble thing for once and actually let Deadspin run the story they uncovered. Seeing ESPN citing Deadspin as a source is hilarious and about ******g time.

Fair enough. But nobody was actually "hurt" in terms of dying, injured for real, etc. I guess if he got money, donations or something, then yeah, but if it was just pity that everyone offered him, to cover up a bigger secret......I dunno.

By no means am I saying he was in the right, just, he could be in for an even bigger story here pretty soon. Took the world all of 7 seconds to start throwing rumors around that he was gay, imagine what they'll find the more they dig.

Between Deadspin uncovering ESPN hiring a person they never met in person and now this story about Te'o's imaginary girlfriend, ESPN wants no part of Deadspin at this point :lol

And that's just in the last year. Deadspin been uncovering ESPN's dirt for years now.

Nah espn didn't want to look stupid cause they pushed teo down our throats...they're the main reason he got all those heisman votes...he was their story...word to the notre dame/Kentucky game when they showed him every 5 mins

why did ESPN sit on the story tho?
If you read that Deadspin story it's pretty comprehensive journalism.  You don't want to put out a story like this without it being totally complete, maybe ESPN just didn't have the time to put it together properly.

why did ESPN sit on the story tho?

Built him up as this sympathetic idol, knight shining, the hero we all deserved but apparently not the one we need right now. And 10 days would have been on the eve of the nat'l title game, doubt BSPN wanted this as a headline to their flagship game of the year.
