2013 College Football Thread (Realer than Real Deal Holyfield -->S/O Craftsy)

All true points.  I'm not totally sold on the Tampa 2, but i agree with a lot of what you said.  I guess I didn't think of it that way.  When I think of Monte's defense I just think of lining up the same way every time and daring your opponent to beat you.  And at SC it didnt work (and doesn't seem to be working for the Bears and a lot of those teams either.)  But I get that it's different in the NFL.

Mike Stoops on Johnny Manziel:

Mike Stoops on WWLS: "If they can keep (Manziel) out of jail or keep him eligible, he’s gonna be pretty good."#Sooners #Aggies #Gigem
— John E. Hoover (@johnehoover) January 11, 2013

Not bad smack from a guy who has been arrested for a DUI (one documented, multiple rumored) and got divorced from his wife after cheating on her multiple times.

Personally, I am concerned about Johnny staying out of trouble...but someone with such a checkered past like Mike should probably think for a second before saying **** like that :lol

You're very defensive, :lol

It's a backhanded compliment, but one with merit. He's basically saying the same things you are saying. Manziel has already been in trouble before, and from the looks of it, he's not getting out of the fast lane any time soon. The good thing for aTm fans is that he can get away with that type of lifestyle/mentality in CFB.

If he doesn't do a 180 by the end of his aTm career, he is going to flame out of the NFL real fast. Why worry about 3-4 years from now though?

Sorry I think a "professional" coach should be held to higher standards than to speculate on kids going to jail. I've seen plenty of coaches throw out backhanded compliments, but I haven't seen too many throw out the idea of a player going to jail. At a certain point you just start to come across as an unprofessional jackass (especially after said player just torched your defense for 500+ yards and 4 TDs).

After it's all said and done, Johnny is going to have something like 50 hours of community service and absolutely nothing on his record. They've already dropped a couple of the charges and the only pending charge is for the fake IDs (which will most likely be wiped off after community service). Mike has had a couple of players arrested for worse than that since the end of the regular season...don't see him speculating on their future as inmates...

^ but they didn't ask him about his players...

i get that stoops might have been out of line and prob shouldn't have spoken on it, and certainly not the way he did.  buttt since he chose to, we gotta admit that what he said DOES have some merit.

Good point. It would have been best to take the high road with that question. You really can go there in that way. BUT I feel the same way he and many others do. You guys should just have the back up ready to go though just in case.

Money+Power+Fame+Youth = :{

Manziel got into a drunken fight at 20 and now he's some at risk case?

:lol

I'm not saying the guy is a criminal. I don't think he is high risk. But as a 20 year old with that much on his plate, I could see him slipping up. Its life.

Hope he doesn't. What concerns me is who he may have around him leeching and mooching.

[COLOR=#red]Nako he'll be fine. All people see and talk about is the arrest, but most don't know what really bappened. Put it this way, it was more about his H.S. friend who came to visit him, and Manziel got caught up in the fracas. Ok so he drank while under age, but all in all he's not this on the verge of jail person people try to make him out to be.

Stoops was out of line with that comment though.

Right? :lol Underage people drink and carry fake IDs EVERYDAY...
Seriously. He's a college kid.

Let Johnny do his thing. He just won the Heisman and has A&M in a respectable position for the first time in what seems like forever. He can flaunt it all he wants.

Derrick Green to announce on January 26th... Never get too excited about an OOS elite prospect picking Michigan this late... Need one to do it before I expect it to happen.

I think you guys are missing the point.

It's not just that he was a college kid who drank and had a fake.  75% of college kids do that (made up stat.)

It's the fact that this dude is already the face of his team, and he's just a college sophomore (RS fresh).  He has plenty of mistakes left to make in college, just because well he's a college kid and it's inevitable, and it doesn't seem like he's going to try to stay out of the spotlight while they're happening.

Hitting clubs nightly, drinking under aged (with or without parents' permission) smanging trollops with no regard for human life.  People seem to be concerned he'll burn out too soon, or get caught by someone (a hater, girl, agent) who's out there to get him.

Doesn't make him a bad kid.  He's just a really young kid on top of the world really quickly whose lifestyle may not sustain it.  Similar personalities have made it through college without a hitch, and much lower profile dudes have been caught up.

But I agree it's dumb to speculate on someone.  Stoops' comments prob were fueled by hate.

Miami NCAA Notice of Allegations Expected within 72 Hours

Coral Gables, Fla. — Miami Coach Al Golden had a good week of press this past week with the news of hiring former FIU head coach Mario Cristobal to his staff. The week of positive press Coach Golden and the University will be short-lived. According to a source close to the University of Miami’s NCAA investigation, the University is expected to receive the Notice of Allegations (NOA) from the NCAA within the next 72 hours. Upon receiving the NOA the University will have up to three months to respond at which time they will go before NCAA infractions committee . According to the source, whom spoke under the condition of anonymity, the University can elect which of the allegations in the NOA to release publicly due to being a private institution. It is not likely the University will release the entire NOA to the general public and will elect to release certain aspects of the NOA that are believed to have already been a known allegation.

We also learned the NOA does involve multiple University athletic programs to include Football and both men’s and women’s basketball. Some of the information we have obtained leads us to believe the University basketball program will be implicated in providing improper benefits to potential basketball recruits to include violations of improper payment for travel to both the recruit and family members. Both the football and men’s basketball programs have self-imposed for violations on multiple levels one way or another. The football program early this year self-imposed a second consecutive bowl ban and the basketball program has suspended multiple players for various lengths.

The University has been under investigation in now what has become one of the longest NCAA investigations in NCAA history. Over 100 former and current players recruitment and playing careers have been investigated dating back over a decade. Most of these player investigations were brought on by former University booster and convicted felon Nevin Shapiro who revealed a laundry list of allegations in an exclusive interview with Yahoo! sports writer Charles Robinson released Aug. 15th 2011.

Good. Let's get on with this ****. We already sat out 2 bowls and suspended multiple players. We should be in good shape overall.
