Early thoughts on the ACC's new schedule
Wow.

With Pittsburgh and Syracuse being added to the ACC in July, this morning’s conference scheduling news is a lot for ACC fans to digest, and we’ll continue to look more closely at each team’s schedule, the crossover schedules, and the nonconference schedules once everything is complete. Even with the additions of two new teams, ACC officials still expect the entire schedule to be finished in early February, which is usually when it is ready. There are still a few schools searching for nonconference opponents.

Until then, this model is a fresh start for the ACC, and the basis for future scheduling. Here are a few quick thoughts on it from Heather and Andrea:
 • Yes, Georgia Tech has to play at Clemson again, but this will help the Jackets in the long run if they can bite the bullet this season and head to Death Valley again. In the past, Georgia Tech has had to play at Clemson and at rival Georgia in the same season. This schedule model will start to split that up.
 • The ACC didn’t “pick” which teams have to repeat their travel schedule from 2012. It’s just the way the chips fell as a result of the formula. If you notice, the entire Atlantic Division plays its primary crossover opponents at home. But when it comes to the rotating crossover opponents, it switches, and the Coastal Division gets those games at home. The ACC did that so the model can be continued.
 • This isn’t the first time this has happened. The ACC also had repeat-site games in 2006, after expansion.
 • Duke got the worst of the teams that have to repeat their travel schedule, having to play at Wake Forest and at Virginia Tech again.
 • North Carolina is in for a doozy. The Tar Heels have to play at Georgia Tech, at Pittsburgh, at Virginia Tech, and at NC State. Good luck.
 • Syracuse has the more difficult conference schedule of the two new teams because it has to play at Florida State, at NC State, at Georgia Tech, and it still has to play Pitt.
 • Pitt got stuck with FSU as its rotating partner. Good luck, Panthers.
Ex-football recruit on Tommy Tuberville: ‘It’s a bad situation’
4:19 pm January 10, 2013, by Michael Carvell

Pebblebrook High School defensive back Demetrius Monday de-committed from Cincinnati on Thursday after never hearing from new coach Tommy Tuberville.

“I think it’s messed up,” his father, Bryant Monday, told the AJC. “You wait until a few weeks before signing day to say something? They could have told us a month ago.

“Now we’re left with less than a month until signing day to figure something out. He had other scholarship offers but he hasn’t talked to other coaches in six months … since he committed to Cincinnati on July 25.
“It’s really disappointing.”

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Monday said he committed to Cincinnati over Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Ball State, Ohio and Georgia State, among others, last summer. Tuberville was hired by Cincinnati on Dec. 8. After not hearing from the new staff, the elder Monday finally called up the football offices this week.

“They told us to ‘look other places,’” Monday said. “I’m in Los Angeles on vacation, and I just got the bad news.

“The thing is, we’ve talked to some other kids committed to Cincinnati. They say the same thing, that they haven’t heard from the staff. Basically (Tuberville) isn’t calling anybody, he’s trying to get the kids to de-commit on their own.
“It’s a bad situation.”

No disrespect to the Monday family, but if the new head coach was hired weeks ago and he hasnt contacted you... its time to look for a new place to play.

why didnt the recruit pick up the phone and call?

coaches contact kids who they want to keep or sign daily ... if you dont get a call in weeks. cmon man, cmon

Holgerson lost one of his brightest coaches to Sumlin.

How much longer will Holgerson be able to keep that job?

Bill young out as DC at Okie State.

Makes the most sense to me. CTT contacted the few kids that he wanted to keep early on Bransiel, Kempt, and Wiesman. Monday is one of the kids who claimed that they were "keeping their options open" after CBJ left as well. I hope he lands somewhere, but the whole thing is just silly. Another kid just gave similar comments so I'm guessing that there will be more of the same comments.

I really like the Spavital hire.

We also hired Jeff Banks to fill Polian's spot as the Special Teams/TE coach. He was just hired away from UTEP by Virginia a week ago. It's gonna be hard to fill Polian's shoes on the recruiting trail, but I like the direction Sumlin went with these two hires.

So where is it coming from :lol

Heard nothing about it. Would've been smart on his part to try and land Mario if he did indeed try to do so

is FSU in some sort of trouble? what is going on with Jimbo?

usually when you have this many changes on staff there is something brewing.

Especially all the Lateral moves being made to get out of T Town. what's really happening?

Everybody who left went to better jobs & got raises but there have always been rumors of unrest amongst the staff for about the last 2 years, though Jimbo has calmed down a little from the time he 'Supposedly' threatned Stoops that he would fire him after the loss vs Wake Forest 2 years ago. But its well known in the Athletic Dept. that he is a ****.

Stoops went to go be a HC & got a raise
Eliot went from DE coach @ FSU to UK w/ stoops to be his DC, and Eliot was Stoops boy from day 1. Got a healthy raise
Hudson left to go be a DC @ Purdue, and this was basically a mutual decision b/c one way or another Hudson wasn't going to be retained. No idea what the Contract situation is w/ Hud @ Purdue
Gran left to be the OC @ Cincy w/ his bff Tubbs. No way he was going to be an OC @ FSU and he wants to be a HC and you don't see many go from RB coach directly to HC. He already applied to be the HC @ So. Miss and Ark St. over the past couple of years apparently some of the feedback he got was that he needed cooridnator experience.
Craig went back to his Alma mater, got a promotion and a substantial raise. Not much you can do about that. He turned them down once but Auburn came back w/ an offer he couldn't refuse.

Only surprise on that list really is Gran to me. Never expected any of them to be @ FSU for 3-4 years just odd that they are all leaving @ the same time. Expected them to get picked off earlier, Esp Stoops & Eliot

Holgerson went out and hired Tony Gibson from RRs staff in Zona... Such a God awful hire... Looks like RR is setting it up for a return to Mogantown... Just watch

Hopefully for Nate Dogg's son he gets that scholarship. He died without leaving the family a penny.

Monte the new Cowboys DC? He couldn't stop Matt Scott, but somehow he's gonna contain RG3?

Maybe he knew he was getting an NFL job and that's why he opted to step down from SC.  Not because of any noble inclination.

He came to the decision to leave, his system is too complicated for college kids based on their limitations (i.e. practice limits, indifference). It's different when you are teaching a system when that system is the key to their livelihood. As opposed to 18-22 year old's that have a ton of distractions, are not getting paid, and think they are the best thing since sliced bread.

Contain RG3? :lol. RG3 is doing a good job of containing RG3 at the moment. Plus all this zone-read/mobile QB movement will go the way of the "Wildcat"... remember that.

Monte will be alright. I wasn't a fan of his at SC, after year one, I knew his system would fail on this level. Square peg, round hole. In the NFL, QB's are assets, why do you think RG3 going down is a major headline? No one cares if Chip Kelly runs his QB to the ground, they'll just plug another one in. :lol

The zone read/spread systems thrive on the college level because you don't need elite talent to be successful. Won't work in the NFL.

Tampa 2 and it's disciples are all over the NFL, there's a reason for that.
