You're losing me. If they finish with a better record than the Spurs, why would they necessarily have a better record than the Thunder or Pacers or Heat?

But regardless, to me that's too much emphasis on team record. Like Big J said, the Thunder and Heat are near the top of the standings and Durant's and LeBron's individual play has been better than Blake's.

I was only saying that because as it stands, The Spurs have the best record in Basketball if i'm not mistaken. So if the Clips overtake the spurs, then it's completely plausible that they end up with the best record in the league.

And the reason why I'm placing emphasis on team records in this case is because of what Lebron and Durant have done this year. What blake has done this year individually has been great, but it's not on the level on Lebron or Durant. Therefore, for a situation in which Blake could get some serious MVP consideration, the clips would have to have the best record in the conference at least to compensate for the season that Blake is having, relative to Lebron and KD.

He can't be serious thinking Blake is somehow going to win MVP all of a sudden after what we've seen from Durant or LeBron this year.

Like I said, Blake finishing 3rd is kind of like winning the MVP anyways.

32-7.7-5.6 on 51/39/87 shooting clips, with a PER over 30 and a top 5 record
27-7-6.5 on 57/38/75 shooting clips, with a PER just under 30 and a top 5 record

24.4-9.6-3.6 on 54/29/70 shooting clips, with a PER at 24 and a top 5 record

Explain how the last statline there is better than the other two, in any way, shape, or form? Without even factoring the defensive portion of the equation.

And all 3 have had a teammate miss time, Russ, Wade, and CP3, so that argument is null.

Unless Lebron and KD both changed their names to Blake Griffin, we won't be seeing that name on the trophy.

how about kobe that one year where nash won it? dude was running with smush, kwame, etc
putting up 35 a night :x

Kobe showed just how great of a scorer historically he was in that season.

Dude had bums playing with him, getting doubled every game and going off regardless.

Then next year in March he averaged

53 & 6 on 53% shooting for 5 games :x :x

Prime Mamba :hat

The worst case of team record hurting a potential MVP was Dwight Howard in 2011.

Orlando had the 7th best record.. if they were a few spots higher he likely would have gotten it. No knock on Rose.. but that was Dwight's award that year.. or Lebron's.

Definitely, what Dwight did that year especially from a defense standpoint was unreal.

Was one of my favorite teams to watch SVG had them boys playing.

Rashard and Hedo :hat
Man, both were washed by 2011. :lol

Would it be safe to assume that until they retire or get to the ladder stages of their careers, the MVP it's basically LeBron or Durant's to loose?

Loved that team man.  Rashard and Hedo were too clutch also.

coaches, players, team personnel, people actually involved in the league.

i find it funny that the MVP award is awarded by the people who have story lines to push.

have you seen the all defensive teams?

The players would be worse, the coaches just give it to ball boys and interns.

Most sports writers vote on popularity. I do agree having people directly involved in the sport to vote or just have a majority.

broadcasters with votes? :lol homer votes right thurr

in recent years we've seen the likes of tony allen, thabo and avery bradley get recognized on these teams. yes, some do get in on reputation (kobe :lol ), but lets not act as if these are bad choices.

and i'm not saying the MVP choices the last few years have been bad, but IMO i feel as if the players and other basketball personnel would vote, we might see kobe awarded in 2006, dwight in 2011, etc. instead of the writers and broadcasters slurping their media darling for the year ala rose.

Kobe is a horrible choice, like awful.

I'm sorry players are just as susceptible to a story line as writers, in fact more so.

because the award is "most valuable", people I belive even players will almost never give to player that doesn't win 50 games.

Is that really so terrible?

Honestly Steve Nash winning the NBA is what you get when everybody only watches one side of the court.

The NBA has been the Offensive MVP pretty much since Bill Russel retired.

Steve Nash was the most effective offensive player in basketball for about 5 years, he was bound to win the MVP.

Everyone in here was clowning Jason Kidd those first couple months in the season. Haven't heard much since then....

32-30.

It's not like he's doing that good of a job, but his team is making the playoffs so he got the job done.

Winning solves everything.
