This has entertained me since he's been in office. I like to focus on Biden and Pelosi when she was in office. The two them crack me up.

Can anyone link me to a video or audio clip of the speech? Missed it tonight but would like to listen to it on my hour commute to school tomorrow.

Watched most of it. Like the "sputnik" comment he said. But man, u can tell the balance of Congress has shifted. Mostly the applauses were from democrats and they weren't heard as loud as usual SOTU Addresses. Then u got Biden agreeing to everything Obama said like a homer status and the new speaker of the house lookin uninterested.

Or having policies like nordic countries whereby if companies leave a place they are expected to replace some of the old jobs that were lost and pay E.I.
eventhough everyone(media) tells you it's against the american moral
If any of this is too socialist /unamerican to you then don't complaiin about your #+!*%+ system
(for too long your system affected and marginalised the poor but now middle class is feeling the heat  so now you're looking for someone to blame)

It's not an idiotic comment, it's the truth.  Unfortunately, Hitler used his amazing ability to convince people to do terrible, terrible things.

Fiscal policy in action. Compared to other industrialized countries, US income tax rates are quite low.

You should be complaining about how the politicians decide to spend your money instead.
This is a very misleading argument. Technically it is true but in those other countries the citizenry gets a better bang for their buck. What do we get here? The money is siphoned off by large corporations on the one hand and given away in the form of entitlements to an equally small segment of the pop by politicians to buy votes. Those who actually pay a substantial amount of taxes ( in real terms) get $%++%!* on and %+%%*% over.

I paid almost 20k in taxes last year. For what? What I am getting for it? Why am I working 3 months out of the year for free?
I didn't mean to make it sound like you're not entitled to complain about your taxes. Thus, I stated that you should criticize more on how your tax dollars are allocated by the politicians ( like what you stated with money being siphoned ).

The other countries get a better bang for their tax money because their government do not allocate large portion of their Crown/Federal budget on defense. Instead, they spend it on health care and their public pension funds . Keep in mind that a significant amount of money funded to health care for other countries are not spent properly. Citizens for these countries take advantage of the free health care that they get ( e.g. seeing a doctor for a simple flu ). However, the social benefits of a publicly funded health care system outweighs the wasted extra funds spent. Unfortunately, these social benefits are immeasurable. Thus, they cannot be really placed as attributes if a country like the U.S is deciding if a publicly funded health care is the right alternative to pursue. All I can tell you is that it indirectly leads to a better quality of life for the citizens of the said country - with less crimes and less stress bestowed to its citizens.

With that said, I completely understand the American paradigm of not wanting a Universal Health Care. If you look after your health, why would you want to shoulder someone else's expense if they binge on fast food everyday ? Living in Canada, I believe the best type of Universal Health Care is a combination of both private and public. With the basic needs covered by the government, and the additional benefits covered employers (e.g. Dental, Private Duty Nursing, Athletic Physio threaphy etc.).

Sorry for going off topic.

Trust me, we also complain that our government politicians give away our taxes to their cronies.

What are you talking about?

We pay a #!%$ ton of taxes in the US. "We" meaning the middle to upper middle class. We are as, if not more, socialist than the Euro countries. The problem is that the only groups which benefit from all this taxation are large corporations, politicians, and the poor. The rich steal from the middle and so do the poor. It's funny that you buy into this mantra that many Americans buy into; the illusion that we are not as socialist as Europe.

Look at all of our entitlement programs.  Are you blind or just ignorant. How can future liabilities on the entitlement programs be $60 trillion if we're not socialist?
We are more socialist than you will ever be, sir. Please %@##.

I have no problem with a Universal Health Care system, per se. I don't see how my initial post implied that I was. The problem is, as UTVOL has stated, this thing that we have now was a political deal first and foremost. It will cost huge amounts of money, at least, initially. Also, I do not trust the corrupt and the incompetent in my government to get it right even if they have good intentions (which they do not).

The health care system we have now is broken, no doubt. A large factor in the health care system being as %*@+%$ as it is the involvement of Medicare/Medicaid in the market. If you know how medicaid/medicare works you would realize the role it has played in screwing up the overall health care market.

i like his idea of research and development but budget cuts and raising taxes doesnt seem fit right now. like medicaid and medicare?! i was like what?!?! Although i do agree with reducing the deficit. But something needs to be done. like raising taxes on the rich cuz they obviously cheat their ways to pay less.

Just because you are now PRO-Business now, Mr. President, doesn't mean you are PRO-Free Market. Unfortunately, the economic illiterate in this country don't know the difference either.

I'm so glad the President is going to start spending and printing more money investing! Create more inflation! Make those gas and food prices sooooooar! Let's stop subsidizing old forms of energy and start subsidizing new forms of energy!
