🦉The Official Drake Thread6️⃣ - Drake & PND Album Fall 2024

I'll say this, for sure Drake is not the best rapper/hip-hop artist of the last decade but his albums are the ones I've listened to the most in the last decade for hip-hop music.

Controlla is wild smooth :hat

I didn't listen to any of the leaks (except Pop Style ft. "The Throne" :x) so I can't comment on that one cat's verse being cut but I can already see a shorty dutty winin' to this on my lap :smokin

What does that have to do with what we're talking about?

If it was supposed to be this unrelatable work of art that you're making it out to be then Kendrick should understand the drop in sales, right? As with most of Kendrick's "art," TPAB gets put on a pedestal and is "not understandable to everyone," which is how the stans justify people not liking it or thinking a "surface level" Drake album is better.

Side note: Aside from Kendrick being the better rapper, the only other difference between he and Drake is Drake doesn't put up a "socially conscious" façade.

You're in here defending a man whose reference tracks can't stop from leaking and who quite literally stole screw music from Houston, mixed a little old school r&b in it, and called it "the Toronto sound." But somehow Kendrick is the one faking the funk??

This last year hasn't proved anything to Drake fans? From QM to D.R.A.M. and now these PND tracks leaking, I don't ever want to hear Drake fans question the authenticity of another artist again. The hypocrisy is too much :lol

Why is sales always brought up when discussing the quality of music.

cause people like to use that instead of the actual quality of the music, i hate when people use sales as a way to say it's good. if a album sells that doesn't mean the content is great. they marketed this album pretty well so of course it's gonna sell the way it is.

So why Kendrick tweeting about 35k in LA :lol

Nah I agree with you, Vanilla Ice sold Diamond so anything is possible :rollin

So have y'all heard the legend reference track that just leaked :{

So he's doing to pnd exactly what he did to the weeknd

If he was classified as that it would be ok, but he calls himself the biggest and most successful RAPPER under 35. That's where the issue comes in :{

The question is are u, him, and other fans happy? Y'all are the ones that love classifying him as a rapper. He's said that out of his mouth, dudes in here were saying he was better than Kendrick and cole. When **** hit the fan, o u know what he's not really a rapper tho.

Dog this like the 3rd time I've said this

ALL MUSIC IS SUBJECTIVE

Theres absolutely no meter that proves one artist is better than the other

Sales, fan reception, lyrics, none of that is an actual meter on whos the best

Most people respect Jay but think Em is a better rapper

Ya'll ****** worship Gucci and people look at ya'll funny because of it

Drake may be the greatest thing to someone and we wouldnt be able to convince them otherwise

Hell, Anti is my dude but I'm baffled on how he don't like The Weeknd, it's all subjective and preference

Drake fried, how the reference tracks keep leaking

:rollin :rollin

This album lookin like its his C3, most successful album to date when it comes to sales just not as good as his other stuff which leads to slow but great falloff. Cant wait :)

UPDATED: @Drake’s Views is now projected to sell 1m copies (1.2m with TEA & SEA -- 150m+ streams) in its 1st week in the US.

Is anyone still surprised at these new reference tracks though? He never flat out denied the whole writers thing, just kinda deflected around the issue.

Using writers should eliminate him or anyone else from being on anyone's list of top rappers. Writing your own bars is an inherent part of hiphop.

Kanye shouldn't mentioned as a top rapper either, he uses loads of writers. That doesn't detract from their legacy as artists though. Nobody can deny that Kanye is a great artist, whether you enjoy his music or not.

Drake's legacy in terms of being an artist/popstar isn't tainted by his use of writers but his claim to hiphop's throne is.

Edit: No I'm not saying Drake is on the same level of artistry as Kanye. They're both considered more than just a rapper and cultural icons but that's where the comparison ends.

Drake's legacy as an artist stems mainly from his incredible popularity and musical dominance. Not necessarily the quality of his work. He doesn't even have a universally recognized classic album.

These guys :{

Calling Drake an artist is a slap in the face to all artist out there. Neither him or Kanye write their raps but putting him in the same space as Kanye is disrespectful as hell. This cat is most manufactured and put together "rapper" in it's history
