Nah no punching walls here.
The fact is we got outplayed on 2 counter attacks and played horrible team defense on them (you think we'd learn by now). It was our death knell last year in our away games vs the Pool/City/Chelsea, you think we would've learned by now. Mertasacker plays WAY too high for his speed.
At the end of the day, if you don't convert your chances you more than likely lose. We had 5-6 solid chances at goal (giroud with most of em) and we couldn't score. We dominated possesion in the first half and couldn't put it in. We deserved to lose, point blank.
Sadly this mentality of attack no matter what (because you're losing and in a knock out game you really have no choice), leads to counter attacks when the ball is turned over, and BOTH Monaco Goals came that way (not counting the deflection goal).
I would've loved to see the team just shut it down after the Ox goal. We weren't gonna get the equalizer. Point blank.
Credit to Monaco for finishing the few chances they got, but they def didn't DOMINATE us.
All I can hope for is a 3-0 win at Stade Louis, but thats HIGHLY unlikely.
I'm disappointed in our inability to score with so many opportunites, the lack of counter attack defending, and Ospina (felt he couldve done better on the first and third goals).
MORE THAN that, I'm disappointed in Wenger. The one time we actually were favored to win a knockout matchup in CL, and he couldn't rally the troops at halftime.
I really wish Gabriel had been chosen at CB ahead of Per. SMH.
I've been wenger In for a while, but we'll continue being a 3rd/4th place EPL squad unless changes are made.
Rant over.
