I get that athletes can be ignorant on certain issues because they live in a bubble and their focus is on nothing else but their career. But that doesn't make them ignorant of the ills that plague the societies they live in. There are plenty of footballers who are just as successful (if not more successful than him) who are aware of the social problems that exist. We live in a globalized world that is more connected than ever where knowledge, news, information, etc is being disseminated at unprecedented rates.

There have been numerous campaigns in football that address racism. There has been alot of news in recent years of black footballers suffering abuse to know that it's an issue. France has a very nasty past when it comes to colonialism and it's treatment of Africans. Griez black teammates are symbols of that colonial legacy. So simply chucking that up to education is an excuse to me. You don't need to watch hours of roots or take an African history class to know the racist history behind black face and why that could be considered racist and offensive.

No one knows him personally or what goes through his head so we can only speculate. But we all should know by now that racism itself encompasses more than just feelings of superiority. But wherever you sit on this issue, he should be held accountable. Will he? I doubt it.

locker room issues wit carrasco seemed to cause a major rift. Vitolo essentially replacing carrasco and gameiro becoming the super sub behind costa has given us a lot of depth. Also El Cholo has been letting the boys run wild attacking wise rather than him being usually conservative in attacking after the first goal. Jose Maria and Lucas have really stepped it up defensively. Also Oblak is Oblak, no getting past him at all this season.
