Your Next Vacation Destination.....?

You could either see some of Scotland - 2 days will get you Edinburgh and a brief tour of the highlands - or you could get the Eurostar to Paris - a few hours from London.
I would actually love to see some nice nature and possibly even some working border collies now that I think about it. I wouldn’t mind getting a nice knit sweater too :lol

For whatever reason I’m not really interested in Paris at the moment..A long time ago I saw some Anthony Bourdain episodes about Brittany and Annecy France, and Bilbao and San Sebastián Spain so I’ve always been interested in visiting those places eventually
I’ve only been to London so I’m open to anywhere tbh

Double click on what @kdawg said - I LOVE Scotland

Which match are you hitting? I’ll be out there for the return leg @ Emirates vs Man U in Jan
Thinking about going for the week of the games vs Spurs and Bayern. Would be a great couple of games to see
If I could somehow get an away ticket to Prague that would be dope but that’s not gonna happen :lol

My girlfriend got an Airbnb and just so happen we’re across from where the Bucks play? Any Milwaukee NTers that come to mind or you guys know where to eat?

For those that have been, should I do a week in Belgium or a week in Switzerland? This would be in early May.

If I do Belgium, I will spend time in Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, and Brussels (in that order). I go with Switzerland, I will spend time in Gruyères, Zermatt, and Lucerne.

I'm also open to suggestions for other countries.

First time chiming in on this thread. My mom has secured her 75th birthday present to herself next year. She just locked in one of the small boutique cruises in the Alaska Inner Passage. 70 passengers, and my brother and I are joining. The boat has kayaks you launch off the stern to paddle next to whales and through ice floes, plus hikes, and other walking adventures. It's expensive as hell for these tours, and you gotta fly to Juneau and pay for hotels an flights on top of the cruise cost. It's about $15K/person. NGL, I feel blessed to be able to experience this. This will be next September.

I have a $400 travel credit on a credit card expiring in January. I need to use it somewhere
I think I want to check out SF, PNW, or Chicago

I really want to go to national park on the west coast or Canada but I’ll most likely be going solo and I’m inexperienced with outdoor stuff like that

I highly discourage you to come to Chicago in January. It’s the coldest and most depressing month out of the year here. Brutal temperatures, covered in dirty snow half the time, almost zero sunny days, zero events going on, …we always visit my family in the Bay Area or go to Mexico City in January. Even if it’s a bit chilly and gloomy there, those cities feels like paradise coming from Chicago

*misread your post, your credit expires in January. I’d say it’s still tolerable to come here until the 3rd week of December with a good winter coat., especially with global warming making Chicago winters shorter every year. If you could somehow book a flight for next week, it’d be perfect:

Anything after that to late February will be miserable for traveling

That’s what I thought too. I would most likely go before Christmas. i don’t really mind the winter, I’m from Boston so I’m used to winter but Chicago seems like another level with the lake effect.

Oh from Boston? You’ll be fine for the most part:lol it’s colder here, but with proper clothes it won’t feel that different except for the random days where it hits zero or below. I’d say it’s more annoying than anything to visit here during winter because of the unpredictable wind.

You’ll be walking comfortably even in 20-30F weather, then all of a sudden start getting hit with some arctic blasts to the face, and start thinking about what you did in life to deserve this torture.

Your weather looks identical to ours in mn. They say we lost a month of winter at least.

You have any thoughts on SF this time of year? I assume it’s rainy in the winter?
If Im going on a trip I would rather deal with the cold than if it rained the whole week :lol

I mean having California winter weather in November feels amazing, but it’s scary to see the change and how fast it’s changing. I moved here in 2020 and would start suffering around mid October; it felt like it would change from summerish weather on October 14th to 40F plus wind chill on the 15th :lol

It’s been getting shorter every year. January-Mid February are still trash, but every other fall/winter month has gotten a lot more tolerable. Again, feels amazing, but frightening for the planet overall

I don’t know how it was in Chicago but two winters ago it was 40-50s like half the winter here even January. It was wild

Climate change probably affected SF/California the most. When I was a kid, late December-February were some of the rainiest months in the Bay Area. Nowadays, you’re lucky to get rain at all, and if you do, it comes down all at once over a few days like a typhoon and then doesn’t rain again for rest of the year. My family lives in a neighborhood called Evergreen, but in 2025 it’s sadly more brown and dry most of the year.

SF itself is 5-10 degrees colder than the rest of the Bay Area, but again, coming from the Midwest/East Coast, it feels like paradise. It’s actually not gloomy and foggy on the eastern side of the city where most people work/visit (the fog and gloom stick around the districts near the Golden Gate) and only feels cold late at night. I took my wife there in late December and we had nothing but great weather going around Sausalito, Carmel, Big Sur, etc. I’ve never needed anything more than a light jacket/sweater other than the random 2-3 days in December where it hits 40-45 max during the day.

I’d say renting a car and hitting up those places is better than hitting up SF itself; the city is a ghost town in a lot of places compared to a decade ago. That’s what happens when your population is fully replaced by dorks with no social skills other than forcing you to listen about “I’m a founder of this new startup that will definitely go bankrupt in 2 years”

I remember that; it was milder in terms of temperature but nature repaid us by making the grey skies last 3 months longer. I remember that I had seen one sunny day until some random weekend in April or May. People went crazy here and flooded the parks and lake shore as if they’d been released from a hostage situation :lol

My seasonal depression and lack of energy used to be crazy the first few years I lived here because of how grey and dark it was. This past winter was harsh temperature wise, but it was sunny most of the time, so I actually went out a lot more even when it was 10-20F out. I’ve made it a habit make the most out of any sunny day between December-April.

Come on out to Seattle/SF happy to host brother

How has traveling been for any recent travelers here?

Airports and cancelations as bad as what I see/read on the news/social media?

I

Definitely want to check out Big Sur and Carmel

I've heard Marin county is really nice too. Seeing some redwoods would be cool if possible
