I can tell you Florence is very over crowded, I went last october. Like crazy over crowded. And its like 90% americansWaiting on the wife to decide either Florence, Italy or Santiago, Chile. May leave out, Friday.

Looking to vacation in Maui for 10 days for the first time….. any recommendations for a family of 5? It my son and his GF ( both 19 ) , my other son (14) , my wife and I
No this is the first timeHave you ever been to Hawaii before this trip?
No this is the first time
What side of the island you staying on. Maui is the best super low key. Previous poster was right about respecting the locals . They treat everyone nice especially on resort and in town. Was my favorite place to visit before the fire.Looking to vacation in Maui for 10 days for the first time….. any recommendations for a family of 5? Maui is very low key. People move slow out there. Think of it as the rural countryside or something. Please be considerate of the people and culture. The community was completely devastated by the fires a couple years ago. And also the flooding that is still happening right now. Don’t go running around acting like ******* tourists. Don’t litter. Don’t be telling locals you wish you could setup a yoga retreat and bring matcha latte shops.
Be very prepared for locals to seem like they are rude or standoff-ish towards you. The community is hurting, and although they need the tourism, they want to protect their culture as best as possible. If you are not a jerk, you will be welcomed and treated nicely. DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE RAIN. It’s a tropical island. It’s gonna rain. Probably a ton. DON’T YOU EVER TOUCH A TURTLE! You will get arrested if caught by the law, you will get punched out if caught by the locals.
That being said, there’s plenty of fun touristy stuff to do with the family. Rent a car, it doesn’t have to be a jeep. Visit the beaches. If the weather is favorable and the road conditions are good, I suggest doing a day trip on the “road to Hana” it’s a road trip that loops around the entire island. Stunning views and many cool places to see along the way. If I remember correctly there is a short 1 or 2 mile hike at the end with waterfalls, called the 7 heaven pools or something like that. Well worth it.
DISCLAIMER: that excursion will take you an entire day. The road is extremely narrow and winding. With steep sharp cliffs on both sides and it’s usually very busy so it can be a scary drive. I would say don’t do the entire loop if any in your party are scared behind the wheel or get easily car sick.
Eat shaved ice. Eat at all the food trucks. Restaurants are ungodly expensive, it will cost you a fortune if you only eat meals there. If your hotel has a fridge and microwave it would be a good idea to just hit up the Safeway and make meals in your place. I’m pretty sure they have Walmart as well.
Black sand beach is cool but you have to book in advance. Book a boat tour or a scuba tour, you can pretty much trust google reviews. Ummmm that’s all I can think of off top.
I’m pretty sure this is the tail end of their rainy season. I haven’t been there after the fires so a lot could have changed.
Appreciate all the tips guys, my original post was too vague, what I was trying to ask was where should I stay? Obviously a lot has to do with budget so all in with flights, hotel and rental car I’m planning to stay under 20kWhat side of the island you staying on. Maui is the best super low key. First stop you gotta make before getting to resort is the Costco. Plan to cook some meals or have easy snacks to access . Muay Thai’s are fire at monkey pod. If you plan to do road to Hana off the tour rent an off road or big suv.
Lahaina was my goto for so long miss the charm of the old town the great restaurants and vibes. Cop some rum from Costco and enjoy a relaxing trip. I have to be at the beach for a day if your resort is in the water renting an umbrella with 2 chairs is so clutch. Ka anapali is so good for this
February is an awesome time to go as well as it’s whale migration season and that in itself is a sight to see whales jumping out of the water like you at sea world .
Buy some cheap snorkel gear from from the Walgreens or cvs and use it at the beach if your not doing a snorkel tour. I’m curious tho where you staying?
Ka’ anapali has some great options . Westin resort and villas is good and so is the Westin hotel and the Hyatt . Wailea and Kapalua are great options as well. I’d honestly hop on YouTube and check out some vlogs to give some visuals but Ka’anapali is my go to especially for families and also has great beach access with calm water as it faces 2 other islands also the resort and villa has washer dryer. Kitchen with fridge and stove top no oven. They do have an outdoor grilling and literally steps from the water facing east so you will see plenty of sunsets.Appreciate all the tips guys, my original post was too vague, what I was trying to ask was where should I stay?
