Wrestling Thread Oct 6-19: 10/13 RAW - Ric Flair Returns, Big Show vs Rusev, Todd Crisley

-- There’s a possibility that Hulk Hogan and Sting could both wrestle their last matches at WrestleMania 31. Hogan has still been pushing for a match against John Cena next year and if he could pass a physical, Hogan may wrestle his retirement match. Cena’s WrestleMania 31 match may be locked in already but they could always come up with something else for Hogan.

Sting has indicated that he is looking to do one more match as well. Hogan and Sting both wrestling their last matches could be a big sell for WrestleMania tickets and buys. Hogan will be almost 61 at that time and Sting turns 56 the week of the show. It’s a long shot but possible, although both likely wouldn’t be branded as retirement matches.

- It was reported on Wednesday by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that TNA, through an intermediary who is friends with CM Punk, made a big money offer to him just like they did to Alberto Del Rio following his departure from WWE in August. After the story broke, PWInsider contacted ‘several high level TNA sources’ and each of them said there was no truth to the story, with one commenting, “No offer was made, officially or via an intermediary—no truth to that rumor.” Meltzer maintains the story is legitimate and adds that Punk showed “no real interest” in TNA’s offer.

In response to PWInsider.com refuting his story, Meltzer wrote, “The other story is obviously true and I didn’t think it was that big a deal since he showed no real interest. Look at common sense. You’re trying to make a TV deal. There is a free agent out there who is one of the biggest stars and you’re denying contact with him? In other words, are you saying you’re an incompetent promotion? It was how many minutes after Del Rio got fired that they tried to get in touch with him? But they didn’t as least try to contact Punk while trying to close a deal?”

Meanwhile, it was reported this week by VoicesofWrestling.com that Punk was backstage at Ohio Valley Wrestling’s “Saturday Night Special” event in Louisville, Kentucky, which may be the first wrestling show he’s attended since he walked out on WWE in January. According to a source in OVW, Punk only spoke to Rip Rogers, Cliff Compton and Trailer Park Trash, with everyone else backstage instructed “to not bother him.” OVW Director of Television Michael Baldwin contacted the website to issue corrections on the story:

“Trailer Park Trash was not in the Davis Arena that night. No one was told not to bother CM Punk, there was no meeting held. Punk was here to talk old times with Danny Davis as the two are friends, and spent most of the time in Danny’s office. We wanted to clear things up with the article which was posted on October 6. Thank you.”

In another Punk note, Meltzer revealed that after Punk left WWE, a major network wanted him to host a reality show—he didn’t specify whether this came after he walked out on WWE or his contract expired.

“No idea if he’s doing it, but can factually tell you since the guy in charge of the show went through me to get his contact info,” Meltzer wrote.

-Back in May, we broke the story that Daniel Bryan was undergoing minimally invasive neck surgery, which was expected to keep him out for less than two months. During the recovery, Bryan experienced difficulty regaining strength in his right arm. He was originally against a second surgery and attempted to heal the injury through rehabilitation. Last month while doing promotional work for Total Divas, Brie Bella said Bryan wouldn’t need another surgery.

The latest as of Monday night is that Bryan is seeing no improvement with his arm. Backstage at RAW from Atlanta, a lot of the talent was talking about the fact Bryan may be getting the “Tommy John Surgery.”

The medical term for the procedure is as ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction, which is a surgical graft procedure in which the ulnar collateral ligament in the medial elbow is replaced with a tendon from elsewhere in the body”. (WebMD)

The typical recovery for Tommy John Surgery is 6-12 months depending on the physical activity the athlete is involved in.

It is still not known if he will ever wrestle again, as this injury, prevents him from being cleared to wrestle. WWE’s creative team is still working under the assumption that Bryan won’t be back in action any time soon and are not factoring him into any creative plans.

Then fell off seemingly in seconds.

-Despite reports to the contrary, it appears as though Kurt Angle is not in negotiations with WWE to return to the company as an active in-ring performer.

It was reported recently that Angle declined a full-time contract from WWE because he doesn’t feel like he can handle a full-time touring schedule.

One theory is that if WWE did offer Angle a full-time gig, it was a tactic done on purpose to politely decline him since they know he wouldn’t be able to handle a full-time schedule.

For a long time, Vince McMahon has been against the idea of Angle wrestling for his company again due to health concerns. Many feel that the only plausible scenario is that WWE may be willing to allow Angle to return for a “farewell run” of sorts, as long as he’s able to pass all of the Wellness and physical tests required to do so.

DDP deserves some type of award. Vince needs to get him a BattleBowl ring.

Since you guys don't know anything about good rasslin below the Mason Dixon Line of course you wouldn't know what BattleBowl was

Wow haven't heard BattleBowl in a while but I liked that idea years ago having random wrestlers as a tag team at a PPV last one was Starrcade

F4wonline now saying he should be back in time for WM31.

Really devastating news about Daniel Bryan. I'm not even sure if I wanna go to Wrestlemania 31 at this rate.

And whats up with NJPW? Tanahashi vs. Okada again as the main event of WK9? Yikes
