why Barkley always say Nuggets don't play defense?

The Marcus Camby DPOY award last year was a joke. At least 3 other players had better defensive years, but Camby had not yet been awarded the trophy despite being a well known first team all NBA defensive player.

it's no coincidence most of these teams are more uptempo style-yeah they don't play solid defense, but like the nuggets the warriors are also ascrappy gambling defense feasting off deflections, but we have no interior presence outside of biedrins, so we get killed everytime we play a team with a guylike Millsap or Boozer-so yeah we get creamed by the Jazz.

Whenever people say that the Mavericks don't play defense I wince. I'm not trying to base things entirely off statistics, but Mavericks allow the 6thfewest points per game, and you're not going to be a bad defensive team and be in the top ten in fewest PPG allowed. They're behind the Spurs, Boston,the Rockets, the Pistons, and New Orleans.

I always say, if you made that statement a few years ago, that's fine, but Avery Johnson hammers defense into the brain of his players.

You won't take any heat from me I agree 100%....Camby isn't that great of an on ball defender...but he's a great off ball defender like yousaid...K-Mart is a great post defender...a good off ball defender...and he can actually guard 2's and 3's...he may be our best perimeter defenderbesides diawara (sp?) who never gets burn ne way so he dont count...

And to the op...take it from a HUGE nuggets fan that has watched every game this year.....the nuggets have NO DEFENSE....i dont care what the stats say...watcha couple nuggets games (especially when they're on the road) and you'll feel me...Cuz if the nuggets were as good a defensive team as those stats mightshow...they'd be no worse than 3rd in the west right now..instead of being out of the playoff's (if they started today)...

Oh god. Nuggets fans are delusional. Kenyon Martin is a trash defender. He couldn't even guard Tyrus Thomas.
The Nuggets are highlight defenders. They will make the top 10 plays even when their team loses. Kenyon Martin would rather swat shots than block/rebound shots.

If you watch any nuggets games, you know their stats r so misleading because

-They are heavy on steals and blocks
-They are inconsistent
-Their interior defense is really good, but their perimeter defense is TERRIBLE. They play pickup d, everybody in the paint, as if the 3 point line doesn'texist. Anybody that can shoot a 3 will get a LOT of open looks from denver.

This is what Charles is talking about. Other than Camby, they play uninspired d, always going for steals instead of just putting their hands up. I loveIverson, but that's been his game for years, and it rubs off on everyone, even Carmelo is jumping passing lanes instead of playing good d.

This is one of those things, you really need to WATCH THE GAME to understand.
