I think the fact that women work more, than they did back in those days, is the reason. Like you said, back then it was definitely more of a financial and security thing.
Women make their own money nowadays so, they aren’t simply tied to a man, because he is the 100% breadwinner. They can split whenever.

So why are they still getting half of everything when they leave? Was she the only one “accustomed to a lifestyle”? Those are hypotheticals, of course, but on the flip side, I feel like divorce is the only thing keeping marriage alive.

This is true. When people point to their grandparents or parents who were married for 40, 50, 60 years, they don’t want to question if either has cheated on the other or beat on the other. That happened a lot, but like you said, a woman wasn’t getting a job that easily to take care of herself or kids in the case of a divorce.

I think the half, part, alimony, etc is a sinister way to keep the wealth, close to the family. Or, close to “white folks”
When white people divorce, they usually marry another wealth person. She could leave some to the kids, pass the wealth down. Or, like Jeff Bezos wife, donate some to “charity”.

If you’re talking about first time marriages, then no theyre not technically increasing but overall marriages which could be your 2nd, 3rd or even 8th marriage are ending at a fast rate lol

Aren’t marriage rates dropping too? I’d assume less marriages mean less divorces. The ratio might still be around 50% though.

Did you read the articles? All the data stops at 2016, when it started to go back up, coincidentally. Plus, they’re talking about millennials, who barely been married long enough to even talk about. Lastly, baby boomers like to get married 3,4,5 times. I think millennials are gonna be one and dones. EVERYONE has a fear of failure now.

Millennial rates actually contribute to the overall rate...not sure why we shouldn't be counting them but alright
Around 50 percent of marriages ended in divorce in the 80s while today it's closer to 40 percent
I personally look at something that drops from 50 to 40 as a decline...others may have a different interpretation

As this thread continues, and with each comment CON femininity, the insecurity grows and grows in here by leaps and bounds.
There has been no group of people on this planet that has oppressed longer than women. There has been no group of people on this planet that have had more crap to deal with in modern society, than women. The current president of the united states said that you can grab a woman by the cooch, if you are indeed famous. A white man just killed himself in prison, because he abused young women with famous people while also thinking that he himself was a god, who also happened to be a friend of the current president of the united states. Women in other countries are just getting the right to drive, yet still not having ownership over their own bodies. A woman can be stoned to death simply for having consensual sex with a married man in those same countries, and dudes are on here talking about how things are not fair for men?
This thing becomes even more pathetic day after day!
