Other books before civil war with his Tony and his alcholism I think all that turned me off to the character.

Man had you mentioned that you used to be a fan and no longer were I could've guessed that for you Because that single event is one of the main reasons Tony Stark has lost comic fans. While i'm not one of them, I can also understand why. That event was trash, just like so many after it.
