Was MJ an average athlete??

I'd like to know when the NBA started changing the way they counted assists cause its def not the same as it used to be and when did they stop counting a shot that u got fouled on as a shot? Cause they used to do that too.

Great Footage. "The Battle of The Giants - Wilt Chamberlain versus Kareem Abdul-Jabbar" on YouTube
The Battle of The Giants - Wilt Chamberlain versus Kareem Abdul-Jabbar:

Hasn't been a Center in the NBA since Shaq to be anywhere near these two guys as basketball players. Both these 2 guys would absolutely dominate in the nba today in my opinion. Without question. Wilt's passing skills. :smokin :Nthat

What counts as an assist varies from team to team. Ultimately, it comes down to how lenient the home team's statistician is for that night. There's no real concrete definition for what makes an assist.

I don't recall the NBA ever counting a shot that you got fouled on as a shot attempt though.

It's changed drastically since the 60 - 70s. It has to do with how many dribbles the scorer gets.

They did. Not sure when tho.

imagine if they still had that, kd and lebron would refuse to draw fouls

Yup. Pistons won all those series except for the last one in 91 tho when MJ reached the finals his 1st time and won his 1st ring. Them Pistons were really good tho. Great u could say. Winning back to back rings in 89 and 90. And yet even tho Jordan said Daly's Pistons tried to end his career with Daly's "Jordan Rules" MJ and Chuck Daly went on to become great friends during the Dream Team run in 1992. In my opinion those great Pistons and Celtics teams MJ was losing to in the 80s made him the player he became in the 90s.

Those Bad Boys teams were great teams. It might not have been pretty but it was effective. A Bird steal away from four straight finals appearances....

I'm always amazed at how MJ put up those numbers against that defense without relying on threes. Ridiculous.

Even in his 37 ppg season & the 35 ppg the year after that, he had more games played than 3 point ATTEMPTS :lol he was just insane man.

Dude had nobody else to pass it to until they drafted Scottie. MJ didn't really develop his 3 point shot til the 90s. Remember this one.

Nice watch. Thanks.
No prob man. Would have been cool to have seen a team implement this type of defense on a player like a Lebron James and wonder and how he would have faired against a team like that. Compared to how MJ played them and also to how Magic and Bird played them.

Crazy that Kareem played against Wilt Chamberlain in his prime and also played against Michael Jordan in his near prime. Talk about seeing things change. From being drafted in 1969 in a league dominated by Wilt Chamberlain to 1988 a league being dominated by Michael Jordan. Pretty damn crazy. Just a thought.

Uhm he shot way below his season average in every series. except 91.

If that's not working I don't know what is. :lol

and the bulls offence was way below season marks for efficiency and given that jordan is the primary offensive cog..to say that the pistons didn't do a GREAT job on jordan on the bulls is revisionist history.

MJ couldn't beat the Pistons until he got Scottie Pippen and learned he needed to get his teammates involved more. MJ never won anything without him. That's just a fact. Scottie is very underrated in my opinion. As we're many of Jordan's teammates.

If Lebron was crying about Harden's non basketball play, I think he'd retire if he faced the Pistons.

The pistons did a fantastic job on the bulls until 91. When you have an offensive talent like Jordan who is that good, andddd has the ball all time he's going to score. The object is to make him chuck his way to 30 instead of easing his way into 30 which they did.

The bulls as a whole suffered because of that development until PJ came in and moved Jordan off the ball with the triple most series and actions. Made it much harder to double and put Jordan much closer to the basket during their offensive sequences. PJ's full court pressing aided in their tempo change as well.

MJ's taking the blame for Detroit doing a great job getting in Grant and Pippen's head?

They didn't contain him, much less stop him. They were effective in making him defer to teammates and flattening him in the lane. When the NBA finally cracked down on that, the "Jordan Rules" became a lot less effective as you saw in '91.

He was less efficient. He had to take more shots and scored less points than he did in the regular season.

The bulls were less efficient.

It. worked. How else would you define working?:lol

You can argue that the physical tactics were un fun to watch and unappealing basketball (I would agree) it's not relevant.

withing the frame work of the NBA at the time the pistons defended jordan well. The Jordan Rules became less effective because the pistons got older and worse and the bulls and jordan got better.
