I know this isn't a Comcast thread but I have to vent...

just when i thought Comcast couldn't get any worse and I was ready to cancel my cable subscription, they trick me into upgrading to their X1 entertainment system...

and TOTALLY redeem themselves!

this is amazing. what Comcast should've been 5 years ago. 1080p, clean interface, voice commands, watch any live TV on my phone (as far as I can tell). not bad.

They got us with the same tactic :rollin

That app that lets you watch live TV on your phone or tablet is indeed clutch.

That ZenFone doesn't look too bad. Did a little digging and it's set to be $399, putting it about in the same competing class as the 5X, OP2, Moto X, etc.

Looks like it has a bit of an edge specs-wise, but with a 1080p screen and people having to wait for a Marshmallow update for it; it might not make the biggest impact when it hits the US next month.

finally got Android Pay to work. It was pretty easy.

first I had to make sure I used systemless root with no changes to build.prop. then i had to go into terminal emulator, reset dpi to stock, restart the device. once rebooted i just tap and pay! and then go back to terminal emulator to change the dpi back to what i want and restart the device again.

sure beats pulling a card out of my wallet and swiping!

but i just found it works without restarting. so i can just go to terminal, run the first command to return dpi to stock, pay, then run the second command and i'm back to default. i just wish i had figured this out a week ago during the $20 BB gift card promotion.

i was at the apple store and the AT&T store helping my parents shop this week, so I finally got to play around with lots of phones. some things I learned:

- iphone 6s plus is same size as nexus 6, except for being a little bit narrower. after 5 minutes at the store, you begin to think the regular 6s is too small. displays at max brightness are similar. iphone is a little faded but nexus is a little saturated.

- i see why no one impulse buys a samsung. most of the display models were malfunctioning in some way. they all had what looked like a screen burn-in, were laggy, etc. the colors overabundance of widgets immediately eliminates any notion that you are holding a premium device. if i walked into a store without knowing anything and had to choose, i would easily pick the iphone over any galaxy.

- split screen mode on the ipad pro is really nice. not sure if android tablets are capable of the same. the hidden multiwindow mode on android is a good start but they should take some notes from apple.

That feel when you ready to cop something new but the new release cycle is upon you

Take it with a large grain of salt as always:

Samsung Galaxy S7 renders reveal thicker, Galaxy Note 5-style design and 5.1-inch, curved screen

GS7-Dimensions.jpg

Once again sourced on our behalf by @OnLeaks, AKA Steve Hemmerstoffer from nowhereelse.fr, the Galaxy S7 features a design that’s not a million miles from the Galaxy Note 5, albeit without that phone’s trademark stylus and with more compact dimensions.

Measuring roughly 142.5mm x 69.5mm x 7.9mm thick, it’s also seemingly substantially beefier than the Galaxy S6 which comes in at 6.9mm. The extra bulk is likely to be down to the need to accommodate a larger battery, but we can't confirm that at the time of writing.

Our source claims the phone’s screen will come in at 5.1-inches, so remains unchanged from the Galaxy S6. But in a break from last year’s model, the display curves up ever so slightly at the edges, in the same way as the so-called ‘2.5D’ screens that you'll find on Samsung’s A Series smartphones.

Just as with the Galaxy S7 Plus, it appears that the standard Galaxy S7 won’t be equipped with a USB Type-C port and will instead feature older micro USB technology.

The upshot of that is that you won’t be able to look forward to faster data transfers and speedier charging.

Pretty ugly tbh, but if the rumored specs are true, I'm in.

  • S7 (5.2") & S7 Edge (5.5")
  • Always on display ("glanceable screen (with the ability to show downloaded content), said to consume about one percent of battery per hour.")
  • Quad HD display (2560x1440)
  • Water-resistant: IP67 certification
  • Non removable batteries
  • S7: 3000 mAh
  • S7 Edge: 3600 mAh
  • Wireless charging time: 2 hrs - S7, 2.2 hrs S7 Edge
  • 4 GB RAM
  • 32 & 64 GB options
  • 12 MP camera, f/1.7
  • Front camera remains at 5 MP
  • "From some points of view, rear camera lens should now be flush with the backside of the device"

In addition to previous rumors:

  • MicroSD
  • USB Type C
  • Essentially same design
  • Removal of IR blaster
  • SD 820/Exynos 8890
  • Pressure sensitive touch
  • Iris scanner
  • 5.7"/6" variant (S7 Plus?)
  • "iPhone level optimization" in collaboration with Google
  • Front panel leaked image (Black = S7, White = S6, Blue = Note 5)[1]

Awaiting confirmation:

  • OIS
  • Quick Charge 3.0 (should be included with SD820)

If they go with a thicker design that's gonna be talked about for ages but spec wise it's lovely as it looks much like a budget phone

S7 edge is gonna have a 5.5 in screen? I'm assuming they won't have a plus variant this time around for it?

Is there a tutorial vid of this somewhere?

what phone do you have and how familiar are you with rooting and such?

android pay checks to see if your android has been modified. if so, it won't work. so the key is to start with stock and then root using the new systemless method, which doesn't alter the system folder of your phone. assuming you have unlocked your phone and installed a recovery like twrp, download the latest version of supersu from this link and install the zip in recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125&postcount=3

after you boot, you then need to use root explorer (or something similar) to delete /su/xbin_bind folder.

android pay should work now. however, if you now edit build.prop (or other system changes), pay will detect the change and not work. the main thing i like to change is the dpi, so you can instead install terminal emulator. in there you run the following:

su
wm density xxx

where xxx = the dpi you want to change to. reset and your phone is at that dpi. however, this also trips up android pay. so what you do before you use android pay is run:

su
wm density reset

which now goes back to stock, and android pay works again.

is it worth it just to get android pay to work? up to you. it was just cool to get it to work finally. other changes that you would do with root may or may not trip the detection that android pay uses. you can use the "safetynet helper sample" app to run the google detection algorithm and see if your current setup passes or not.

another caveat is that google will probably update their algorithm soon and the systemless root will be detected. but for now it works. also, changing dpi like i described above will not scale everything properly. editing build.prop is the better way to go for proper scaling, but then you have to edit your system folder. i'm not sure if editing build.prop back to stock before using android pay will work or not.

lmk if you need more info.

S7 edge is gonna have a 5.5 in screen? I'm assuming they won't have a plus variant this time around for it?
The Samsung Galaxy S7 has been spotted for the first time in pictures. ITSkins, a third party case manufacturer has handed a selection of CAD renders of the handset to GSMArena, as well as a few details. It seems there will be both a regular Galaxy S7 and a larger 6in Galaxy S7 Plus using the same design - so far there are no details on edge variants. The renders appear to confirm earlier reports that the Galaxy S7 would closely follow a similar design to the Galaxy S6. The report states the Galaxy S7 will be nearly the same size as the Galaxy S6 at 143.37 x 70.8 x 6.94 mm, while the Galaxy S7 Plus will be bigger than even the Galaxy Note series at 163.32 x 82.01 x 7.82mm - likely meaning a 6in display panel.

Now, this next snippet of info alleges there are not only two Galaxy S7 handsets in the works, but a full quartet of FOUR.

But, and this is important, all doubts should go out the window when we factor in who is leaking this information, as it comes via none other than @evleaks, aka Evan Blass, a man with a near impeccable track record. According to Blass and a screenshot he posted, there will not only be the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Plus, but also a Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 edge Plus. We can't say we're too shocked, but it's nice to have confirmation on the expected!

As Brlier leak from T-Mobile Poland, suggesting Samsung would launch two handsets in Q1 2016 and another two in Q2.lass points out, the leaked info lines up nicely with an ea

s6 dropped in april. so this coming feb the s7 drops. so samsung phones last...10 months? damn anyone with s6 or older are gonna get left in the dust REAL fast with updates.

the hell is the point in offering 4 versions of a phone? especially if they're making the entry level s7 big as hell? people really copping samsungs like that?

I think their strategy is to flood the market since apparently the thinking is everyone wants something different. I honestly think it's counter productive.

S7
S7 Edge
S7 Edge Plus
Note 6

Is how I'd do it or even eliminate the smaller Edge. But what do I know.

Note 6 may be dropping in August or September then :hat

My big question is if the new "+" variant is 6" how big is the note going to be? Is the note just going to be a tablet?

Note 6 gonna be the same size as a kindle fire
