THIS MANNNNN. It cant be that hard. Make it so that all Stock Messaging Apps have to have the functionality. And if they want to keep it open, make an API so that the third-party apps can implement the functionality. Done.I know I beat it to death and I apologize in advance, I can deal with these cameras and average battery life but can we PLEASE get a universal messaging system. Please
Even T-Mobile is taking it into their own hands and putting this type of universal messaging functionality into all the phones on their network. Google is shooting themselves in the foot by not implementing this smh.

Standard stock messaging app is long overdue.
Just picked up the note 5 this week and it's been
. The camera and screen are on point.
Battery life is alright. Currently trying package disabled pro and the battery is improving.

I feel you on the choice. I just think that at this point, Google should atleast set some standards that a device has to meet to be able to run Android with the Google Services. Minimum battery endurance, performance tests, maximum bloat, etc.
As for the perfect device, honestly I think it can be done. And i'd pay the 800 for that device.
Shoot give me a device with Samsung or LG Screen Quality + HTC's Level of Software Optimization + Samsung Camera Quality + Note Battery Life , HTC/Samsung(as of the S6) hardware design, and i'd pay whatever they ask

The problem with cutomizable phones is that you lose the efficiency that comes from mass-produced, carefully designed products. It'll probably be slightly bigger, heavier, run warmer, etc. than what it could. Also each upgrade comes at the cost of something else. Better screen may drain the battery faster, better camera may drive up the price too high, bigger battery may requires a bigger bezel, etc. Soon enough we're just another OPO.
Anyway I'm perfectly happy with my N6. I always get compliments on the photos I take (maybe I'm just a really good photographer?
), I almost never worry about battery (between Android M and quick charge), etc.The improvements I want are in software. The hardware lasts a year or two at best before it's all outdated. For example, why spend $800 for a top-of-the-line hardware phone every 2 years when, for the 2nd year you have your phone, there are $500 phones coming out with better hardware?
Last thing -- everyone I know with an Iphone that's more than a year old has terrible, and I mean terrible, battery drain. I don't know how anyone can say that they last better than Android phones (well at least Nexus or rooted phones with regular upkeep of the software).

You're never going to get the perfect phone, otherwise there's no incentive to buy the newer model. It's why Apple, Sammy, and all the rest keep releasing these yearly marginal if any improvements.

They havent had even comparable battery life in a long time(besides the 6+). All the iPhone users I know are always somewhere begging for a charger like a fiendI hear EWD knows how to get a start-up going

Its mostly due to that combo of constantly having to charge that small battery, and having a non-removable joint. The constant recharges slowly degrade the life of the battery, which most iPhone users wont even know how to replace.
iPhone users believe they have better battery life because the blogs and Apple tell them so. Not realizing that that battery is constantly degrading. Atleast our batteries are high enough capacity that the degrading wont do that much damage over a 2 year period.

6+ is doing fine on battery a year later. But like dude said, this is the first time we have had a good battery

The 5s still performs very well and can still take a good pic, but the battery is atrocious :x

can't wait til the 29th to put all the speculations to rest as far as the new nexus phones go.
there was an amazon india leak of the 5x that revealed 2gb ram- really hoping that's not the case.
i really don't mind the bezels- i think it's done for functionality when being held in landscape. but what do i know.
all the other leaked specs i don't mind.

the MMS optimization on it is horrible. when I used it I would get like 1/10 every MMS including group texts and even when I clicked download they wouldn't come in. switched to textra and haven't had any issues since

The problem? Nobody KNOWS that its supposed to me a universal messenger. Its not implemented properly. OEMs put their messaging app up front, and hide hangouts deep in some random folder that most people will never open. Even Google themselves have a Messaging app AND the Hangouts app on the Vanilla devices. Force Hangouts to be the main or only Messaging app, then it will take off and be an iMessage rival.
Thats kinda the problem with Android as a whole though. Most people dont know how powerful it can be, because Google doesnt know how to market the features. And they allow the OEMS to push the best features to the side for their own half-baked versions.
I know Android is Open Source, but if Google wants Android to keep up, they need to set some standards. iOS is catching up and in some areas surpassing Android in the feature department, while Android is stagnating and being held back......so after iOS has all the features, what benefits are there going to be to have an Android phone?

Google can make a good texting app, it's called Messenger, but I don't know what was the problem with Hangouts. Maybe it's improved since I last used it.
And like ShimmyHendrix said, it's because no one knows what it's supposed to be. Those of us in here, on reddit, on xda, we're the minority. In fact, I've never seen another person using an Android phone that uses something other than the stock messaging app. So they just use the regular app that comes with their phone and don't even bother looking for an alternative.
If Hangouts was the only messaging app that came installed on your phone, then it could actually compete. Android's open source and various manufactures is a strength at times, but the lack of consistency from OEMs and OS/apps makes it harder.

Been team Android since 2011, this Friday I'll be getting an iPhone 6s plus. Decided it's time to try something new, still have an android tablet though. Since I prefer this thread to the other thread I will still frequent this one and contribute when I can
