no regrets on not waiting for the htc one or s4
I got a brand new one for $530 but I live in the Silicon Valley so it's rare to get a really good deal since everyone knows their stuff. How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking of getting a note 2 but don't trust anyone on craigslist, buying new though is really pricey so i'm at a crossroads herejust joined the Note 2 fam

you're right. at this point, it's all about marketing and hype. and it's always been that way.Rooting is pretty essential if you're getting a bloated phone from a provider. There's no way I would be happy with an S3 if I didn't take off all the trash that was preloaded. It's not even about the bloatware itself. It's about having the freedom and choice to choose what goes on with your phone.
I realize a lot of the mods and other tweaks are overkill. But I need to root. I want full control of my phone, even if I'm not going to change anything on it.
As for Samsung and Android -- I can see what Samsung is going for, but I just feel like they're digging their own grave.
Le'ts put it this way: there are things that Apple does really, really well, and there are things that Google does really, really well. However, I am struggling to think of anything that Samsung does really, really well. The only piece of software I use is the AllShare stuff, which I have to give them credit for. But outside of that, it sounds like a bunch of mediocre features that won't be enough to carry the device.
But you are just one person, the 16-28 age range wont give 2 ships about allshare, but will use EVERYTHING else that samsung promotes......and thats whats making them soo successful. There is NO other reason they are the leading Android phone provider out there right now. this should already be known from the convo`s about the plastic samsung vs the aluminum HTC.
I get what you are saying......but you are certainly the minority as far as thinking the features are mediocre.....which they very well may be, but what other phone has those type of features and is advertised the say samsung advertises it?

I was pretty paranoid buying on CL because people have been reporting their phones lost after or stop paying for the EIP
but the guy I bought it from bought it full price from tmobile and cancelled his value plan within 7 days due to crappy service in his area
I had him meet up at the T-Mobile store to check the IMEI and asked the T-Mobile rep if there was an account linked to it and if it was 100 % cancelled etc
So i'm not worried about my Note 2 getting blacklisted
THAT doesnt even make sense.........There is a catch somewhere in that price because no way in hell they go from $50 for 500 mb to $70 for unlimited and no throttled speeds........When you find out what it is, im SURE bricks will be **** (lol)
Just dropped today, good app, and FAST. I have evernote, and it has crazy options but not as fast as Keep. I already threw my grocery list and other misc. things on it. This app has potential, hopefully Google adds a reminder option so I can put my task on it. I still havent found a good task app yet

to capture the market fully, Samsung needs to shed the image of android being buggy and scattered. so it makes sense for them to start making things proprietary.
I'm just disappointed whenever Samsung starts resembling apple. I came to android simply because it was not apple. I want a different philosophy and approach. but you're right -- I'm in the minority.
google keep is so basic. exactly what i needed. they finally got it right. no need for fancy bells and whistles, just cut and dry note taking.
Depends on the phone, but most or Mac friendly. Is it possible to "root" from a mac OS?

HTC one X ?
Just got a Nexus 4.
Wondering if any of you guys can help me out, its been well noted that the vibration/volume is not the best on the N4. I keep my phone on vibrate 80% of the time, but the N4 vibration is weak as hell. After some searching I found a app "contact vibrate" that lets you create your own vibrations works pretty well. My only issue now, is when the phone is locked and I get a msg/notification the vibration goes back to the N4 defaults. Anyone know how to change this without a custom ROM/kernel?
