Vinyl Collecting thread Vol WAX

Anyone hitting up Record Store Day tomorrow? Trying to score the BIG set but man $185 is crazy

Anyone familiar with either of these sites, they got some deals on here that seem almost too good to be true

I know this is a really old question, but yeah, I've bought plenty from uDiscover. It's Universal Music's direct store. If you pay attention, every now and then you can get free ones from them for just the shipping costs.

I've been "collecting" for almost my whole life. Both parents were super into music and passed that love onto me. Used to mow lawns as a little tiny kid to get allowance for records/tapes/CDs. When records went out of style or whatever, I got my mom's collection and our family turntable (Technics SL-B30). Was all about hitting used record stores and goodwill type stores in college. It was just hard to justify it because I couldn't listen to them in the car. Once they started including download codes and Amazon started offering AutoRip, it was over for my wallet. I pretty much stopped buying music any other way. Here's my recently reorganized shelving...

I collect too. Basically have all my parents stuff which is a huge R&B and Pop collection from the 80’s. Have others too from my DJ days that didn’t last long during my college days. 😂 Never had that much dedicated time for the hobby, but I still listen to them every now and then. Was listening to MJ’s Thriller the other day.

I’ve also got Ben Baller’s DJ vinyl collection when he retired from DJ’ing back in 2004. 😂

I haven’t bought any in a while due to not having the space for them. Last one I got was I believe Frank Ocean’s Blonde.

Any tips on packing the collection for a move? In 4 years my modest collection went over the three figure mark. Between moving all of this and my sneakers I’m a bit overwhelmed lol 😢

Info on shelves?

this is mostly my newer stuff that I frequently listen to, all my older stuff is boxed up but might take them out when I get another shelf.
i work for a music distributor so when I look at my paystub and see my "employee purchases" statement for the month I weep
still nothing like digging in the crates though...the pandemic put a damper on the fun in that.

Didn't know this thread existed.

Neither did I. I think someone just resurrected it the other day haha.

Nice setup! Looks like a lot of us have embraced that cube shelving. Before these, I used to have some of mine on 2 shelves of a cheapo walmart bookcase, and it ended up warping the "wood," and it fell apart. Came home one day and the top level of records was sitting on top of the bottom level of records.

Had no idea this thread existed either.
I only collect soundtracks for now, but I'll be opening that up to select artists/albums I adore
like Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope, Kitty Daisy Lewis, 5, 6,7,8's stuff like that.
I'm pretty shutdown for the year lol and I can say confidently because the next priorities don't exist yet. Some of my favorites to just throw on

Pretty much everything I’ve added to the collection since quarantine and WFH (March). Today I finally pulled the trigger on Thundercat’s ‘Drunk’ box set. Also was able to secure a copy of Knxwledge’s Meek Mill Vol 1-2 remixes thanks to my homie that lives in London.

I went to this music shop 2-3 years ago by University of Maryland. They had mad CDs and vinyl. Sitting there going through crates was dope. I been meaning to go back and now with Covid, I don’t know if they survived.

Nice hipster collection spacedoodoo spacedoodoo

From my reggae/dancehall DJing days

Literally a tenth of what I had and I have a garbage bag of 45s in the attic..

top two are 45 cases
Long one is reggae LPs
Bottom two are hip hop LPs and R&B LPs, respectively

and a lot of Dub Plates (specially voiced songs from the artist to my soundsystem by name and by beat of my choice on an acetate disc) in the crib somewhere..

When I move I’ll build a moving studio for my man cave

I pretty much get new records in every week at this point. But these are the latest.

Y’all on discogs?

I tried (very minimum effort). Just too much of a PITA to try to pick the correct pressing and all that.
