But can you explain why you feel it's tacky?

Meh I don’t feel like it. I just don’t like it.

Wedding vows are dumb as hell & an overall waste of time. Become a 3rd degree burn victim & tell me about those pompous wedding vows then.

What is the relation between the two? Or is there one that i missed?

I think wedding vows are dumb, but if you were to do them then reading them off a phone is trash. Likely says a lot about the effort u put in that relationship. Reading speeches in general is trash w/ exceptions.

But what does that have to do with a burn victim?

WHat's wrong with reading it off the phone?

I think the main thing to me is the unwillingness to spend time & put in effort to memorize a speech on a very important day. also, speeches don't come off natural when you are reading off something. i guess you can argue the individuals who wouldn't read off something would probably be on average better public speakers but it's just sounds hella off to me whenever i hear someone reading off a speech.

i have done both methods by the way but i was young & dumb when i read it off my phone (thought i would look more fly doing so & also didn't know how unnatural it sounded until i was doing it)...never again

While we at it…
Jhene Aiko can’t sing either. But we’ve been here before.

Also, everyone ive spoke on except Aaliyah, I’ve seen live. And my cousin sings background for Ri. So I’m here with receipts.
I liked her in this song. I wouldn't say she can't sing, more like she doesn't have range since alot of her songs sound similar

The not memorizing = No/Lack of effort is an angle I just can't agree with. Wild claim. You know how many speeches are read and not memorized? That means folks hardly care? Come on man.

I think using paper/phone because you care so much that you want it to be perfect COULD be a reason to read.

I see where dude is coming from

Something intimate like a wedding vow or eulogy I expect it to come from the dome. Sounds more genuine and authentic. Shows you care about the person

But a general speech is fine when reading from a script

I get this, but the segment is literally called the reading of the vows.

Just the image of someone reading their vows off their phone is cringe. Put in a little effort and memorize that joint.

I’ve seen enough people fail at public speaking to ever judge

you get up there in front of your friends, family and others nerves could get the best of you

dont blame anyone for having that safety net to make sure you don’t forget anything

Comparing Aaliyah to Janet in any fashion is borderline blasphemy.
Aaliyah was young, beautiful, and most importantly, the beneficiary of top notch production during her time in the form of Robert, Tim and Missy.
Janet had the mystique, the hits, could dance circles around pretty much anyone, and is one of the most well-rounded entertainers ever.
and to reiterate, she had hits.
I love Aaliyah, but she had pretty much peaked musically prior to her demise.

I think the public in general has propped Aaliyah on a pedestal she doesn’t necessarily belong on due to her being incredibly pretty, her tragic end and the abuse she endured.
I fully agree that Janet was another level overall vs Aaliyah. But just singing skill? I get the comparison.

You are acting like I haven't talked to people who ended up reading off a speech. Also, what do you mean by people hardly care? Just so we are on the same page. Big difference from people using notes just in case they miss something to people who straight up read off something & looking like they never practiced once.
