ya i seen parked hyundais out here with their own steering lock + a boot.
Kinda mindboggling it's devolved to this..

Clearly there’s a leadership issue. DC still has more officers per capita than almost any other major city. I get that the easy fix is just “hire more officers” but what’s that gonna do if their whole strategy is flawed in the first place?

What people forget is, yes, its a lot of police in DC. But, most of the police agencies outside of MPD is federal agencies with their own missions. Capitol Police, US park police, Secret Service UD, FBI Police, and etc. sure, they can assist MPD, but leadership in those agencies limit the amount of police work they can do. Most of their sole focus is protection of those buildings and the surrounding areas near the building, or what they call, MOU. MPD is the main police agency in DC. US park police have jurisdiction all over DC, but it’s not that Many of them that’s actually patrolling because of how much less police officers they have.

I say all this to say, MPD has to pretty much handle everything with the low manpower and insane police reform, so their hands are brutally tied.

No offense but this just isn’t true .

You can look it up here by department and it specifically states it’s just for MPD, not federal or transit.

Rate per 1000 in DC is 5.0
Atlanta 3.1
Charlotte 1.9
Philly 4.1
Miami 2.7

In that case, what you says make sense. Overall, all police agencies are drastically understaffed. That’s pretty much the just of what I was trying to say.

There’s a few things that need to occur to help bring the homicide rate down. It’s going to have to be a combination of things…..

1. Hire more police officers
2. Build a juvenile jail facility and strengthen juvenile punishments
3. Fine parents……rather the parent of a juvenile found guilty of a felony. Particularly if the parent is a DC resident and if they are receiving government assistance of any kind…..they lose those benefits.
4. Have the police bring back the jump out crews. Gotta keep these street/corner boys honest. That would require local residents to let the police do their jobs and not get upset or emotional when they see these police crews rounding up the low lives that sit out on the corner all day or the ones that just stand outside of a liquor store wasting the day away.
5. Bring back the School Resource Officers fully into the school system. The SRO’s should be former cadets, meaning former DC public school students that enrolled into the program to become a cop after graduating high school or officers that grew up nearby in Maryland or Virginia that can better relate to the kids to help deter violence.
6. Have more gun buyback programs in the city.
7. Incorporate the 3 strike program for repeat offenders.
8. Get rid of the DC Police Reform bill
9. Expand the ankle monitor program. You commit a crime myself and others need to see who you are and having that ankle monitor is a constant reminder of the danger to society that you are. That and expand the GPS tracking so that city government officials and even the public at large knows who and where you are.

Number 8 is the biggest one!!

I agree with everything you listed.

Unfortunately, DC council has that “woke ideology” on MPD. That man Charles Allen is the sole reason why crime is the way it is now.

Look at these tweets from him in 2020. Straight disgusting.

3 strikes and you’re out gotta be like a national thing i don’t get how it’s not.

I don’t care if you’ve 14, 17, 43. If you do felony level madness three times I think you’ve lost your chance to be a part of society anymore.

It’s the .01% of repeat offenders that make cities unsafe because they have that brazen lack of i don’t care mentality.

Gotta be much much harder on violent criminals and way easier on stuff like drug abuse. Our whole system is messed up.

It was only a matter of time before these youngins carjacked the wrong person. This time it was a member of Congress……..

A group of 10 to 12 year olds ain’t pulling nothing off without the help of some “OG” guiding em …Those ppl the ones that’s pushing a lot of the bs

Yeah that’s definitely quite possible as far as getting help from some older heads……but believe it or not some of these kids are just this bad and plan stuff like this on their own.

They talk about it amongst themselves and just go out their and act…..because at home or even in a court of law they face no consequences. Society better get focused and get serious with some of these kids. Spare the rod….spoil the child.
