tips on becoming a better poker player????

thanx for reminding me, bout to play online.

practice practice practice is my advice.

Read the books - Sklansky is a good start. Never underestimate another player. Even if you've read all the books, so has everyone else. Remember that pokeris about psychology as much as it is about math. If you play at a regular card house, watch for the good players and try to learn what they do. If youcan't figure it out, pick their brain.

man, i just woke up from a poker binge.. came up tho, so its all G.

like dude said, its not only about cards, its also about the players that can give you the upper hand.

- when cards are put on the board, look at other players' reactions.. if they grabbin for chips immediately, they most likely got something.
- when you KNOW you have the strongest hand after the flop or turn, CALL that dudes bet, dont get excited and raise or go all in. maybe after the river, youcan make your move with a re-raise.. youre trying to milk this dude for his chips.
- dont play hands, "just to play".. playing 2-7 off suit is garbage and if you get used to goin in with stuff like that, itll become a habit..
- dont expect "to get your money back" from that guy that just took some from you. when you play out of your element (pissed off bc of a bad beat, etc.) is when your vulnerable. take a breather and laugh it off.

im not expert or anything... im still learning my damn self. good luck.

Be aware of your opponents actions. Best way to get better is to look for ppl's tells and get good at being able to make the right decision in unsuresituations.. You're most likely not playing with pros so whoever you play with will give off hints. Be aware.

Learning the card part should be easy. You don't gotta be great at math you just gotta know what hands are good with w/e amount of ppl you're playingwith.

When it comes to cash games.
It's not about the cards. It's about those you're playing against.
Position is everything most of the time. Don't try fancy *@+# out of position.

Position is key with all poker. Knowing the range of your opponents hand is more important than what you have in your hand most of the time. Playing solidaggressive poker (raise with good hands, don't just limp in trying to get lucky with flops)

You can check out forums like pocketfives.com or forumserver.twoplustwo.com
If you are serious about learning you can watch training videos like cardrunners.com pxfactor.com
Books are always good, I'd recommend Harrington on Holdem for Tournament for good basic strategy.

try different hands out for fun...only bet if you hit a pair or think you can persuade them that you have a pair... play with new players to boost your ownconfidence...know when to lay down a good had if you think your beat chances are you are this comes with experience

Yeah, watch the movies Rounders, poker is primarily about reading tells, in Hollywood at least.
