This is why the bible and other religious texts had to be written by scorned MALES

At the same time where did you people get this false sense of self-riotousness to feel the need to inform people that atheism is the proper way of life?

I dont think its a false sense... I try not to bait people but I do try to show them that most of what they believe in is really useless. I know it seems mean and what not, but if you notice, I didn't start this with the banner "ALL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE...COME AND DEBATE ME"...nah, I was just stating my opinion and others that wanted to proclaim their love for jesus felt the need to defend him/her.
With me its like this. I'm not going to start a fight...however I will address you if you say something thats inaccurate AND/OR does not make sense. Its dangerous to have beliefs that infringe on the rights of others and root themselves in fundamentally unverifiable things. I'm encouraging the use of reason.

Even in other threads and in my inbox i'm getting shout-outs and PMs from others that have taken some of the stuff myself and others have dropped as tools to learn more about religion and to compare their histories. They're learning more about how they've been deceived and they thank me for allowing them to ask more questions and to be more objective aboit their reasoning. There are new names in these topics all the time and in so much as more people start to ask themselves some fundamental questions, we can stop using religion as a crutch for self confidence and use humanity as means of unity.

Also, DJPrestige, if I remember were you not one of those that said you were a believer? Are you stating that you have started to question a few things? Maybe i'm wrong but if so, welcome to the club. If not then I encourage you to just take some time and try and justify why you really believe and what its so important to you.

I'm only an outsider in this argument but do you atheist's argue in such fashion with your relatives...? Maybe you should start with them and then work your way onto the masses.

Wouldn't it be better if what you firmly believed in is exactly that...what you firmly believe in. Now if this debate was based on intelligence it would have been fine but its not and that can clearly be seen with the comments Dame Theory has been posting. This thread isn't about intelligence and science and fact as dame has probably made alot believe it is, it's about condescending ramblings. You don't see Hawking being condescending in his theories, do you? So what's left is ego, plain and simple.

People have a hard time believing in what they preach to others that they have no business preaching too, so they try to reaffirm it through mockery and judgement. Which can be said to people on both sides of the fence in this thread.

That's not the way to live life from my standpoint. Be confident in what you believe and stay firm no need to put down others to make you feel better about your decisions and stroke your ego.

You're right. I could be nicer, but its hard to be nice when a encounter a lot of things that don't make sense to me. I'm still working on refining my arguments so I do take some credit for sounding like a D-bag... however I feel that even if I raised questions about the holes in religions/faith many would still see it as an attack on themselves and not their faith. They are inextricably linked to both ideals. They can't separate themselves and that is just as dangerous.
You're more likely to see atheism online. Its easier to talk about. I don't really have an immediate circle of people to bounce ideas off of. I'm black...in the bible belt...so... you tell me what you think most of my peer believe in probably...

I agree. It is better to be firm and to be tolerant...but sometimes, I won't lie, I just like letting people have it now and then. Playing nice with religion doesn't get very far cause people don't see how theyve been brainwashed...but thats why I have to learn better ways to address it.

Are you apart of a religion?

I am a born again Christian. Christianity is not a religion but a way of life.  I am a follower of Jesus and I do my best to live my life by his teachings. I am not perfect, I fail all of the time but because I worship a God that is alive and a God that forgives, He still welcomes me with open arms.

What do you HONESTLY think of non-believers?

In what sense? I love everyone. I may not agree with the lifestyles some people choose to live but I still love them. I have only one Christian friend here in Winnipeg. The rest of my friends are non believers. I don't think anything less of anyone just because they don't share my faith. My friends all know my beliefs and I know theirs. I have athiest friends. We have discussions from time to time about each of our beliefs. I NEVER look down upon them. If I were to look down on those who don't share my beliefs I would be going against everything being a Christian stands for.

Was there an incident that led you to believe in a God?

I was raised in a Christian home and in the church. I have seen people possessed by demons, known people who have been visited by angels, seen people healed and have seen people receive personal miracles that only a higher power could have accomplished. There were times in my childhood that I could have easily died or have gotten badly hurt. I'm not even supposed to be here. For some reason, those incidents never happened. So I would say yes, there were incidents.

What are your thoughts on evolution?

I think the scientific view of evolution on how the universe, the earth and life was created is false.  The big bang seems fishy to me because the matter that exploded still had to come from somewhere. I think species do evolve over time but not into whole other beings. Our bodies are so complex and so unlike anything else that it seems too odd for us to be accidents.

What are your thoughts on the progressive nature of scientific advancement often overturning notions previously attributed to God?

God can easily work through science.  As we find more things, we learn more and more about the awesomeness of this planet and the life that is on it. God and science don't have to be at two different ends of the spectrum.

Why do you believe in an afterlife?

We are beings so unlike any other known beings on this planet. The fact that humans have accomplished what no other animal has, to me, means we are special and set apart from the rest of life.  If we are in fact created by God in His image, then being that we are set apart, should mean there should be some sort of afterlife.

What do you parents believe in?

Same as me.

Could you date someone of a different religion?

I couldn't. It would only lead to problems down the road. Someone would have to give in and change their ways or the relationship would have a good chance of failure due to differing views.

What do you think of others that pray to a different God? Also, who prays to more "correct" or "right" or "true" God?

This is kind of asking what I think of non believers.  I believe the God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Jacob, David, etc is the one true God. That is my belief. Yea, there are so many other religions and when it really comes down to it, we are not going to know who is right until we die.

When was the last time your faith was challenged and how did you maintain it?

My faith is challenged almost every day. I work in an environment where Christianity is seen as a farce just like it seems to be here. Keeping true to God's word and staying close to His heart is the only way to maintain it.

Do you think God is the ultimate source of reality?

I'm not really sure what you mean by this question.

Do you praise God and why?

Of course, He is the one who is in control of my life. I have given my life to the one who I believe is the creator of life and the one who gave me life. It only makes sense to worship the one who made me. I believe my reward in heaven will be so much greater than anything I can experience here on earth. Worshipping God with all the believers from the beginning of time and with the angels just seems so amazing to me!

Was god created or did he/she/it/them always exist?

God has always been and always will be. I mentioned this before. He is a spirit being. The laws of physics and material don't apply to Him. He is in a realm that we cannot see nor cannot understand. He has allowed some people to have visions of what this spirit realm looks like before we die. Hearing what those people say is just jaw dropping. It's so hard to comprehend that a life form has ALWAYS existed and always will exist. Why do you think He created us? Him and the angels got bored!
I'm purely kidding with this statement ... some people say that Satan and the 33% of the angels that went to hell with him, did so on a bet to see who could grab the most amount of ppl.

What are your thoughts on prayer in schools?

Kid's who don't believe in it shouldn't have to do it, but those who wan't to should be allowed to do it and be allowed to do it openly.

What are your thoughts on god/religion being used in the legal/court system?

There is a time and a place for it. Everything shouldn't be judged in a Christian perpsective but on the other hand things shouldn't be judged in a way that mocks or hinders the Christian faith either.

Are we a christian nation?

No. As much as the media says we are, there is so much corruption everywhere that I don't believe any nation in the world can be labled a nation of faith.

Do you try to convince other people to believe in God?

I share my faith with others when I know they are open to listen. If they want to listen, I will share. If not, the topic of conversation moves on. It's up to me to plant the seed but it's up to God to make that seed grow.

What do you think of stories of mythology in ancient civilizations like Rome and Greece?

Every civilization has their account of creation and their Gods. Although I don't believe in them I find it very interesting. If I was against and firmly had a dislike for Greek mythology do you think I would be supporting Nike?

Do you believe in the "end of times" or the rapture?

Yes, I believe we are living in those times now. The bible says that in the end days there will be more natural distasters, wars, famine and disease. It also says governments will start to unite and grew ( the EU) and that we will see the ability for anyone in the world to connect to each other from anywhere (technology). The prophecies written in the bible about the events that will happen as those times get closer are starting to happen.

Do you pray? If so, what do you pray for? How often? Can you be "out-prayed"?

I pray, absolutely I do. I pray for my friends, my family and other people that need support. The bible says to always be in prayer with God. That is pretty hard to do these days. I don't pray nearly as much as I should. Jesus is supposed to be my best friend and prayer is how I talk to Him. It's so hard tho to even set aside half an hour of my day to spend with Him and read His Word.  You cannot be outprayed.

Did you always believe in god?

Yes

What is your explanation for the beginning of life?

God spoke life and it happened. God created us from the dust of the earth. He gave Adam CPR and he was alive.

How old is the earth in your understanding?

I don't know how old the earth is. If you trace the biblical timelines back you find that human life is only slightly over 6000 years old. The bible said everything was done in 6 days. It doesn't say consecuative days or even earth days. There could actually be many many years between the times that the skies and the seas were created, to the time land was created to the time life was placed on that land.

Should the Pope and the Catholic Church be investigated?

In my view, the Catholics have warped Christianity into their own religion and have made a mockery of it. No where in the bible does it say that a priest can't get married. The bible encourages us to find a wife. Forcing a guy to be single his whole life is absurd. The bible aslo says to only pray to God/Jesus. Where did they come up with the idea to pray to Jesus' earthly mother?

Do you tithe? Why/why not?

I don't have a church  home here in Winipeg yet so I am not currently tithing. When I do, I most certainly will. Tithing is not just giving money away. It helps pay the bills for the church bulding and it also is used toward outreach ministries and functions to assist those less fortunate. I always shake my head at those who think tithing is just throwing money away.

What is the purpose of life in your opinion? Is there a purpose?

To worship God and to also worship God with others.

If/when you have kids, will you teach them to believe in God? Why/why not?

Yes I will. When they are old enough to make their own choices, they will do just that. There won't be anything I can personally do to change their opinions. It will be between them and God.

What do you friends think of your beliefs?

Most think I am silly or whacked but in the end they do respect them.

Is there a hell?

Yes. It's a place of complete loneliness and separation from God, darkness, pain and torment. It's not a party house like people think it is.

Do you believe in miracles?

Yes.

Have you witnessed a miracle? How are you certain that it was a miracle?

Healing of disease, people having kids that were never supposed to have children, cheques showing up in the mail for the exact amount required when those people had nothing, people being given places to live just when they thought they were on the street. God works in awesome ways and has the best timing.

Does god grant us free will?

Yes,

Regarding faith, do you think God actively listens?

He listens to those of us who speak with a pure and humble heart.

How much credit do you give to God for your successes and failures aside from your individual effort?

As much as I screw up, I give Him all the credit.

Have you ever considered following another God or accepting a different view of God?

No.

is god physical or immaterial?

He is a spirit being. His angels are spirit beings. The angles do manifest themselves in physical form. The bible says that God is so majestic and pure that if we were to see Him in his physical form that we would drop dead.

Do you believe in any prophets? If so, which one and why?

God uses many people and does reveal things to people for them to share and tell the world. There were many prophets in the bible and I am sure there are people alive today that God is using in special ways. I think God uses these people to bring hope and joy back into people that have lost faith in humanity and are at low points in their lives.

Whats your reasons for believing in God?

I can't see myself believing in anything else. God's hand is in everything I see. Everyday I see his awesome works in nature. When the wind blows, He is there. In a storm, He is there.
As a society we have turned our back on God. God has in turn, said, that if that's the way you want it, that's the way it will be. God has no reason to intervene in someone's life if they don't want Him there. He is there with open arms, you just have to come to Him.

Before he was crucified, forgiveness was given through the sacrifice of animals and plants unto God. They had to be killed/harvested, prepared and burned in a certain way for those people to attain the forgiveness. God allowed Jesus to be crucified so we no longer had to do these sacrifces. Once Jesus became that eternal sacrifice,  it made it so that all we have to do, aside from a lifestyle change of course, is come to God in prayer for our forgiveness and salvation.  After Jesus rose, He then made the new covenant, changing almost all of the laws of the old testament into the laws that we as Christians abide by today.
How was Jesus "sacrificed" when Jesus knew that he would be back in 3 days? How is that a sacrifice at all?  Jesus didn't give up or lose anything.  He got everything back and more.
Only thing he might have lost was time, but since God is outside of time, he didn't lose anything at all!\

Correct me where ever I may be mistaken.

It was all about the blood He shed. It wasn't really about the death but about His blood being spilled so that we may have eternal life through Him and not through animal sacrifices.

Why did he need to die to forgive us?
He could've done it with a snap of his fingers.  All of that blood and gore was for his pleasure.  There was no need for his death.

Fair enough. Christianity is not a way of life however. A lot of the stuff you all preach is not inclusive to others. I wonder if you really take the time to see how Christianity has affected lives around the world negatively. Its not all peaches and cream. Addtionally, if your God exists and is alive, can you show proof of it?

What do you HONESTLY think of non-believers?

In what sense? I love everyone. I may not agree with the lifestyles some people choose to live but I still love them. I have only one Christian friend here in Winnipeg. The rest of my friends are non believers. I don't think anything less of anyone just because they don't share my faith. My friends all know my beliefs and I know theirs. I have athiest friends. We have discussions from time to time about each of our beliefs. I NEVER look down upon them. If I were to look down on those who don't share my beliefs I would be going against everything being a Christian stands for.

Maybe you should really allow your friends to convince you of why they don't believe. You ARE friends with them. They do care about you clearly but I think you might shy away from really seeing another perspective. I don't think you should look to be condesending or anticipate them looking down on you, but I think you should look to have discussions where you all see both sides of the issue. I wonder if you've given credence to the notion that of a life without God. Christians also DO look down on others who don't share their beliefs. You just don't do it because you live in America where the rights of others are protected. If you lived in a christian theocracy like many nations in Africa and south-Asia, ou would be punished for apostasy. Christianity is not a religion of tolerance to non-believers historically either. Take some time to see that your view of christianity isn't really how things are seen around the world and that for something you claim to be "divine" it sure is not shared universally.

How did you know they were possessed by demons and not just crazy or mentally ill or delusional? Did you see the demon? Did anyone describe these angels? How can you take their word for proof outside of that they "just saw them"? Did you know these people personally? People healed? Were these people healed without modern medicine? A lot of times the human body is capable of marvelous things that we are still trying to understand. It doesn't mean that since we can't explain it that a god did it. Thats unfair and inaccurate. Sometimes the best answer is "we don't know." You should have died? But you didn't. There were times I was supposed to die, but I didn't. So i'm supposed to thank god? So what about those that die as children? Did they deserve it? How do you know that YOU are the reason you're alive. Things happen all the time. How can you even conclude that you're not supposed to be here? You are where you are... thats it. Where does the need for God to be around indicate that you were saved from being alive?

What are your thoughts on evolution?

I think the scientific view of evolution on how the universe, the earth and life was created is false.  The big bang seems fishy to me because the matter that exploded still had to come from somewhere. I think species do evolve over time but not into whole other beings. Our bodies are so complex and so unlike anything else that it seems too odd for us to be accidents.

How does it seem false? There is tons of evidence for it and none for creation. Literally none. The Big Bang does NOT state that. I suggest you take sometime to learn about how it may have been created. A central theme of the theory is that it may have literally come from nothing. The science, the math, and other data indicate that this may have very well happened. There are other theories that indicate it could be infinitely expanding and contracting over and over again. We're not sure but we're working on it. The big bang does NOT state what you've come to say though. We are currently able to watch planets form in distant galaxies. We see the formation of other places like us, yet we think that we are unique. Its literally stupid of us to be so close-minded. If you think species can evolve over time then you should understand how genetic variation occurs. Over ridiculously long periods of time things DO evolve and change. How can you believe in microevolution and not macroevolution? How do you explain genetic differences and phylogenetic trees in different animals? Additionally, our bodies are just our bodies. They're not "complex." We think they are because we don't understand all of it. You calling it complex is a slap in the face to a physician who dedicates his life to deciphering previously unknown things about the body and making way of fixing it more accessible. If our bodies are so complex, why are there so many things that are designed badly? Look at this link and several sources on the page showing that our bodies aren't as intelligent as we think: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...rgument_from_poor_design . There are a lot of things that don't make sense but they are indeed vestigal organs and things that just shuoldn't have happened if we were so "perfectly" created. We aren't "unlike" anything else. Have you seen other primates? Watched behavior in other animals? We're not that special.

What are your thoughts on the progressive nature of scientific advancement often overturning notions previously attributed to God?

God can easily work through science.  As we find more things, we learn more and more about the awesomeness of this planet and the life that is on it. God and science don't have to be at two different ends of the spectrum.

This is actually inaccurate. A lot of the realm of science has encroached on the realm of where god was supposed to exist. Much of the things that god was supposedly in charge of are now in the hands of people who know better. God was used to explain things that we had no answer for. Simply invoking it used to prevent further discussion and inquiry. Now we are able to answer these questions and never again will we go back to asserting that god was in charge of these things. We are free to marvel at the things we don't understand but the more we learn about it, the less we can attribute it to God because we finally understand it. God is under attack because humans are a lot smarter than they used to be, and are socially more evolved to not enact the principles of God but instead use themselves to learn more about the world and better ways to interact. It irks me to no end when religions steal secular achievement. The pope last month decided to say that the Big Bang was "God's work"...clearly he doesn't udnerstand the big bang and clearly he doesn't want to lose control over the numbers of people in his gang.

We are not unlike other beings. We are just as unique as any other animal. We THINK we are unique simply because we exist. We are selfish to think this way. It asserts that we are a higher species when in reality we are just a different species. There is a difference. There is no such thing as a higher species. All the species that exist on earth are MODERN. Each and every one. They are at their current and most terminal branches of life and development. To assert that anything is a lesser species means that we think we are inherently better than others...this is factually inaccurate. We can't fly, breathe underwater, or live in extreme climates...yet we are unique? In as much as we utilize the faculties of our brains, we are incapable of physically enduring things other animals do with ease. There is a balance you're not seeing here. Why would we be created in God's image? First you assert that Jesus was not a human in another post...then you say that we're created in God's image...this makes no sense. Plus if we are in fact created in God's image...that doesn't say ANYTHING about how there should be an afterlife. Thats a logical jump with no reason for it. Its like me saying "well since I like chicken nuggets, I'll have fish for dinner"....that is a non-sequitor. It doesn't mean anything and doesn't assert anything of value. You didn't explain any reason for us needing an afterlife. If we're made in god's image..then the comparison stops there. That just means we're made in god's image. Your statement does nothing to assert a proposition that supports an afterlife. Its just a phrase you've been taught to use without even thinking about how much or how little sense it really makes.

What do you parents believe in?

Same as me.

No surprise here. Have you thought about what religion you might have if you were born in another country? Raised by a different family? Would you still come to christianity? I doubt it. You could have just as equally been literally any other religion in the world. You should take time to identify your bias towards yourself and realize that you aren't as special as you think you really are. You're in the same boat as every other believer of any other faith.

Could you date someone of a different religion?

I couldn't. It would only lead to problems down the road. Someone would have to give in and change their ways or the relationship would have a good chance of failure due to differing views.

So much for that "Christian" view of tolerance you spoke of. Its a shame that religions divide people like they do. Ive seen relationships and been on dates with people that couldn't date a non-believer. Its incredibly stupid. I don't believe in the stories of your religion and yet i'm supposed to go to hell... Its like a fear of the unknown that keeps people divided. You should take some time to see that you're alienating some potentially important people in your life and you should instead take the time to learn how to embrace those differences. Your view on religion and faith propagates much of the segregation of ideology in the world.

What do you think of others that pray to a different God? Also, who prays to more "correct" or "right" or "true" God?

This is kind of asking what I think of non believers.  I believe the God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Jacob, David, etc is the one true God. That is my belief. Yea, there are so many other religions and when it really comes down to it, we are not going to know who is right until we die

The one "true" god? You and EVERY other religion claim this. Who is right? Again...how interesting of you to call me ignorant and small-minded when you think out of the thousands of Gods that your god is the right one. What about the Greek Gods? Or the Roman ones? or the African ones? Are you all wrong? What if you end up going to their hell? Shouldn't you convert? Why is it so easy for you to call them wrong when you're they think is wrong? I personally think that without religion...there isn't an afterlife ANYWAYS... so you all are just deluding yourselves wasting time on a perfectly good life here.

When was the last time your faith was challenged and how did you maintain it?

My faith is challenged almost every day. I work in an environment where Christianity is seen as a farce just like it seems to be here. Keeping true to God's word and staying close to His heart is the only way to maintain it.

Maybe your faith is challenged because there is that small moment of clarity...of rational...of intelligence that sneaks past you and reminds you that your belief really doesn't make any sense. Its called coming to your senses. You're scared to even consider an alternative. Its only when you consider alternatives and think about why you really and truly need something that you come to decide whether or not you need it. Sounds like you're scared to look at views other than yours. When you hear about all the atrocities in the world and you wonder where God is...why do you think its the devil and not that bad people just do bad things? Humans aren't perfect and never were. They are selfish and unruly. God if he really existed would have intervened right? Yet you retreat back to religion and force it to come up with answers like "its gods will"...thats ridiculous and silly. Its Gods will not to save people made in his image? Its gods will to not save those that worship him and waste all their time and money doing so? I also like how religion uses poetry to symbolize phrases that in reality are as vapid and as empty as the thoughts they convey. "staying close to his heart"...means NOTHING.

Do you think God is the ultimate source of reality?

I'm not really sure what you mean by this question.

I meant to ask "Do you think God is the ultimate source of morality?"

Oh...heaven sounds WONDERFUL! Its just like telling the kid getting his tonsils removed that he'll get all the ice cream he wants! Oh joy! Its a ploy to pacificy you into believing. You are subjected to a sales ploy. Heaven doesn't even make sense. creator of life? Have oyu looked into abiogenesis? What about your parents? I guess they didn't make you either? The notion that you'll get a better deal in heaven than on earth is what propagates a lot of the bull %+** and oppression we see today. It keeps people not wanting more out of life and instead helps them deal with the mistakes they made. "we'll i'll get a chance to do it over!" yeah right. Own up to your mistakes and take charge of today. I've seen people claim that well all those poor kids will get a better deal in heaven...how utterly asinine. Heaven is your OWN dream world. No one has ever been and came back to tell you how it went. You don't know anything about it. Furthermore, why even "worship" god? Isn't your god perfect? Why worship something thats perfect and is all-knowing? Wouldn't that mean that God isn't perfect if he needs to be worshipped? Why sacrifice himself for humans? Seems like a bad deal. If god is so perfect and we're made in his image...shouldn't we praise ourselves? I'm sorry I just died laughing reading this one...i'm not trying to be a d-bag but this sounds so SILLY to me. Like I could tell a little girl this and watch her eyes light up like she was at disney world or something. This is just ridiculous.

I'm purely kidding with this statement ... some people say that Satan and the 33% of the angels that went to hell with him, did so on a bet to see who could grab the most amount of ppl!

Why is your concept of God infinite and not the universe? The laws of physics don't apply? Sounds like an escape from reality to me. Thats just not possible. The laws of physics and material exist for everything else except for him? Thats just a cop out from addressing the concerns you have with the fallacies of gods existence. Its willful ignorance. What are these visions you talk about like? Huh? What about what these people say is so "jaw-dropping?" Have you ever considered that they might be LYING? That they were hallucinating? Why are you so able to accept EVERYTHING you hear as fact? Ever heard of Lucid Dreaming? Sleep paralysis? Out of body experiences? The brain is a very weird organ and is capable of some incredible things. You should take some time to read about psychological experiments and learn about some basic understandings of how our consciousness works. I'm not even going to address that comment about satan and angels cause that makes no sense to me. Satan is the only thing that keeps believers, believing. Without hell there is no real reason to believe.

What are your thoughts on prayer in schools?

Kid's who don't believe in it shouldn't have to do it, but those who wan't to should be allowed to do it and be allowed to do it openly.

No comment. I'll just say that a moment of silence should suffice...for those that "believe"

What are your thoughts on god/religion being used in the legal/court system?

There is a time and a place for it. Everything shouldn't be judged in a Christian perpsective but on the other hand things shouldn't be judged in a way that mocks or hinders the Christian faith either.

There is NO time and place for any religion in the court system. Everything should be judged with respect to what we can prove and witness in the here and now. I agree, things that don't exist...shouldn't be mocked or hinder faith...in what doesn't exist.

Are we a christian nation?

No. As much as the media says we are, there is so much corruption everywhere that I don't believe any nation in the world can be labled a nation of faith.

I agree with you for a different reason. We're not a christian nation because of corruption...we're not a christian nation because we were NEVER a christian nation. This country is secular and gives no preference to any form of religion.

Do you try to convince other people to believe in God?

I share my faith with others when I know they are open to listen. If they want to listen, I will share. If not, the topic of conversation moves on. It's up to me to plant the seed but it's up to God to make that seed grow.

Do you mostly talk to children or those less fortunate? Who are you most likely to tell about god? Just curious.

What do you think of stories of mythology in ancient civilizations like Rome and Greece?

Every civilization has their account of creation and their Gods. Although I don't believe in them I find it very interesting. If I was against and firmly had a dislike for Greek mythology do you think I would be supporting Nike?

If every civilization has their account of creation...what makes yours any different? In fact Jesus isn't even an original story. You don't believe in the other stories of creation when yours is JUST like Mithra... or Gilgamesh... or Horus... they're all the same Gods with similar dates of praise in society and the same rituals. Most of what you believe isn't original so if you can reject those, why is your god so special? Let me guess...people told you he was. Well guess what? Those people got told the same message too. You are in the SAME boat as everyone else. You're not that special dude. Plus, your rejection of Nike has nothing to do with anything. I'd rather you reject them not because of the origin of the term for the company, which is a good reason to support a decent story, but rather on their business practices in poor countries. ...but you missed the point.

This is nothing new. People predicted the end-times for hundreds of years and nothing has happened. There will always bee more natural disasters...they're NATURAL...people live in places more prone to that crap happening...flood zones, volcanic areas, tornado alley, fault-lines, hurricane zones...nothing new. Disease is natural too! Can't ever get rid of it...we can just control how it affects us. Famine isn't something we've been able to address but we HAVE been able to make strides in. I should laugh in your face for suggesting that EU will represent the end-times. The formation of the EU is no different than the formation of other bodies in the past and is no different from the formation of other bodies in the future. Its just something that has happened now. You really don't have a grasp on reality if you think thats an indicator of the end times. Technology is a sign of the end-time? Riiiiiight. Something beneficial is the sign that the world might end? Thats as contradictory of a statement as any. Does that make sense to you? People predict the world is going to end on may 21st this year... i'll be there on the 22nd and hopefully you will too. Stop generalizing your bible to stretch and cover every single thing where it really doesn't apply.

Why pray if you still have to work hard? Why pray if you still have to go out there and make things in your own life happen? What has praying ever done? I get that getting to talk to someone calms you down, but what does it really do for you? You cant say there is any real benefit. It makes you feel like you really are speaking to something that has more control over your life than you do. Even you say that you find it hard to pray... has your life been in turmoil since then? I doubt it... you're living without prayer and you wont admit it.

Did you always believe in god?

Yes

False. You were taught about god. You were taught about God in the same way others were taught about their own religions and their own gods. Everyone is born an atheist until they get pumped full of this stuff by their surroundings. Its the biggest indoctrination that continues to prevail to this day. You can't honestly say that you would have ended up a christian if you weren't taught about god when you were born.

What is your explanation for the beginning of life?

God spoke life and it happened. God created us from the dust of the earth. He gave Adam CPR and he was alive.

And you wonder why its so difficult for you to get any real respect... Apart from you spending so much time with the bible... tell me WHERE it says ADAM received CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION and he was given life? You are sadly mistaken...especially when CPR didn't start until the 18th century... Sounds like history disagrees with you buddy. God created us from dust? Now you're a little too far gone. I can't even take you seriously. You're not created from dust. You're created from maybe... star dust composed of other organic molecules...i'd go with that one...not dust under your desk. God just "spoke" life? Ridiculous. How does that make ANY sense to you?

How old is the earth in your understanding?

I don't know how old the earth is. If you trace the biblical timelines back you find that human life is only slightly over 6000 years old. The bible said everything was done in 6 days. It doesn't say consecuative days or even earth days. There could actually be many many years between the times that the skies and the seas were created, to the time land was created to the time life was placed on that land.

Human life has been dated to far beyond 6000 years back. The bible isn't the only source of human history. Modern science, as I said before, removed the false notions in the bible. Also, why do believers think 6 days could mean 6 years or something else...or that it wasn't consecutive days... DUDE. THE BIBLE SAYS SIX DAYS. Take it or leave it. Stop moving and shifting the bible to fit your own words. even you know its not possible for 6 days to take the world to form thats why you feel the need to make these silly notions about "well maybe thats not what it means"... you're picking and choosing. Its dishonest! Especially if this is what you're supposed to live by. Current SCIENTIFIC readings say 4.7 billion years old. This makes a little more sense as A. evolution takes a loooooooooooooong time for anything to happen B. Theres EVIDENCE. C. One week?...REALLY? Do you even know why the bible works in ONE WEEK? Do you know the origins of the modern 7-day week? I suggest you look that up. It could have just as easily been an 8 day week...or a 4 day week...but you notice we settled on 7 days as a convention right? I suggest you do a little research.

The catholic church isn't the only faith that has molded religion to fit themselves. EVERY form of protestantism has molded christianity to fit their needs. Look at all the sects! You'd think that for something so "divine" and so "powerful" that it would have been unified and made under one banner to work for everyone...but I guess everyone has their own agenda. You've gotta realize that the same way you criticize others can be used to criticize your faith. Your stance is not as absolute as you may think.

Muslims have their own form of tithing too. Look no one is mad about you helping those less fortunate. Thats good for society...however tithing IS giving money away. You're supporting a church. You're trying to support out reach ministries. Its no different than seed money of a cult to spread ideas. You don't need to believe in god to do good for the community or to educate and provide healthcare. I've done more service to my community than most believers I've ever met. You've got people in the church spending rent money, bill money, money that could be saved for a bad day just to give to a church. They ask for %10...like whaaaa? Hell no! Thats money I worked hard to earn. You want 10% of what I have just so you can "pray" over it and ask for me to get it back later? Makes no sense. Why not invest in something REAL. Stocks, businesses, your home, your family... not in something you'll never see again. At least if I donate to charity I know where the money is going. But I get it...preachers gotta make a living too...

What is the purpose of life in your opinion? Is there a purpose?

To worship God and to also worship God with others.

I think this is SO sad. A perfect god...with infinite powers...made us in his image...for the sole purpose of worshipping himself. How EGOTISTICAL and NARCISSITC is that? In any other realm that would be laughed at. The purpose of life is to LIVE LIFE. Procreate. Have fun and try not to die too young. You're wasting your time if youre spending all your time praying to something that is not proven to be there. Why would anyone spend their life worshipping God? Like for real? You're better off worshipping kings and queens on earth since you can at least see them.

If/when you have kids, will you teach them to believe in God? Why/why not?

Yes I will. When they are old enough to make their own choices, they will do just that. There won't be anything I can personally do to change their opinions. It will be between them and God.

Please don't. Introduce them to other religions. Show them the similarities and absurdities of religion. Show them other means of explaining things religious people don't understand. Teach them to be a skeptics. Teach them to not be gullible. Teach them how to think critically. Teach them how people with silly beliefs lie to each other and look down on others. Show them how much time and effort they waste not living life.

What do you friends think of your beliefs?

Most think I am silly or whacked but in the end they do respect them.

Maybe you should listen to what your friends might have to say. They are your "friends" after all...they should be willing to keep it real with you.

Is there a hell?

Yes. It's a place of complete loneliness and separation from God, darkness, pain and torment. It's not a party house like people think it is.

How do YOU know what hell is like? Let me guess...someone told you.

Do you question anything for yourself? If there was NO HELL (which i think there isn't) then there would be NO reason to believe. No bad place to send nonbelievers. No place to punish people who go against god. Its used to keep believers in line. It keeps you all from questioning your faith, which doesn't make sense, and threatens you. Sounds like a loving religion right?

Do you believe in miracles?

Yes.

Not coincidence or things that can be explained ...right... "its out of my understanding to it MUST be a miracle!"

Have you witnessed a miracle? How are you certain that it was a miracle?

Healing of disease, people having kids that were never supposed to have children, cheques showing up in the mail for the exact amount required when those people had nothing, people being given places to live just when they thought they were on the street. God works in awesome ways and has the best timing

Healing of disease? You know people CAN get better sometimes right? We do have our vast and increasing knowledge of modern medicine right? People having kids when they're not supposed to? You know predictions aren't absolute right? Things CAN happen. Its called probability. all it takes is one sperm and one egg. I guess those cheques weren't written by people right? I guess people that had nothing didn't make a mass proclamation for help right? I guess they weren't written by other people who just wanted to help for the sake of helping. All of these miracles aren't really miracles. They're just happenstance things that you can't explain or don't know why they happened so you think that since its beyond you that God did it. How do you know God did it? Is there a God stamp of approval? A seal? Is it notarized?

Does god grant us free will?

Yes,

So why do you feel the need to pray? If you don't want to, you shouldn't have to.

Regarding faith, do you think God actively listens?

He listens to those of us who speak with a pure and humble heart.

I prayed really hard once to pass a test I didn't study for and I was super sincere about it. I had been good all week too. Guess what? I failed. Maybe I should have studied harder instead of asking God to help me. What about those with no food or money or those with critical ailments? Do they not get their prayers answered? Why should we even progress to learn more about the world if god is jsut going to answer our prayers...

How much credit do you give to God for your successes and failures aside from your individual effort?

As much as I screw up, I give Him all the credit.

So when you screw up...its Gods fault...and when you succeed its god's fault... why do you even have free will? Maybe you should just not do anything at ALL.

Have you ever considered following another God or accepting a different view of God?

No.

Thats right!...your god is the only one you know about so you can't accept any other ones.
eyes.gif
...seriously, take the time to learn about other gods.

is god physical or immaterial?

He is a spirit being. His angels are spirit beings. The angles do manifest themselves in physical form. The bible says that God is so majestic and pure that if we were to see Him in his physical form that we would drop dead.

Right...what a great way to NEVER be able to witness God. If we see him, WE DIE!
laugh.gif
...once again... a cop out that prevents any real proof of his existence. Plus...the spiritual realm? Thats just bunk. The angels are spirit beings...that can manifest in physical form...you can handle that contradiction.

How come we haven't had any new prophets since then? Also, how come prophets always seem to start a new religion? Prophets are one-offs. Special edition, one-of-one series type things... You DO touch on an interesting point you haven't realized... God exists in those that are in low points of their lives. Its used to bolster up those with no hope.

Ah... you can't believe because you can't think of anything else to do... You seem to be scared to consider the possibility that god never was there but is a man-made creation to explain %+** they didn't know. God doesn't exist dude. Its a figment of your imagination perverted by man in "books" that steal moral absolutes and other stories from other cultures and claim as their own. The wind blowing is God? What IS this Ancient Greece? Storms? Ancient Rome? How do you know what God said? Are you a prophet? does he speak directly to you? When did he say this?

Are you apart of a religion?

I am a born again Christian. Christianity is not a religion but a way of life.  I am a follower of Jesus and I do my best to live my life by his teachings. I am not perfect, I fail all of the time but because I worship a God that is alive and a God that forgives, He still welcomes me with open arms.

I'm purely kidding with this statement ... some people say that Satan and the 33% of the angels that went to hell with him, did so on a bet to see who could grab the most amount of ppl!

The catholic church isn't the only faith that has molded religion to fit themselves. EVERY form of protestantism has molded christianity to fit their needs. Look at all the sects! You'd think that for something so "divine" and so "powerful" that it would have been unified and made under one banner to work for everyone...but I guess everyone has their own agenda. You've gotta realize that the same way you criticize others can be used to criticize your faith. Your stance is not as absolute as you may think.

Let me guess...someone told you.
eyes.gif

Ah... you can't believe because you can't think of anything else to do...

The funniest (well maybe funny is the wrong word
ohwell.gif
) about religion to me is how many different sects there are within each of the major ones. Y'all follow the same damn book but you can't even get along? Catholics are doing it wrong? Methodists? Episcopalians? Lutherans? Presbyterians? Sunnis and Shiites are enemies within the same country? What?
