I know no southern cities compare to NY, but did you care for any southern cities when you visited?
I traveled around the US mostly for work purposes and got a chance to check out most of all the major cities.
If I had to choose any other city to live in besides NYC, it would probably be San Francisco. Just recently went out there for work and it's awesome.
Not my cup of tea if I'm paying that much it better be to a mortgage company. I'm not a city guy so ill take my 3 bedroom house with 2 car garage and 1200 dollar house payment at 25 any day of the week.

That's been the price since forever... my boy had a studio ON Astor pl. (Google it)...
$2200 back in'03... more than a decade ago
I'm currently renting my BASEMENT for $1500...
Preppy kids from the suburbs have the jobs that pay good and they got it to give...
New York Times had a article that says new Yorkers rather live in a hot neighborhood and eat ramen noodles than live in the burbs...
I don't blame them..
Nyc got that work
if I'm in IB & working 100 hour weeks, then I'd pay for that place if it's within walking distance of my office.
Damn $2700 a month gets you a pretty nice house here in AZ.
Oh... Sorry.
I would say live in queens if you're starting out and need a place to live. It's really close to manhattan, and queens has a lot of nice safe neighborhoods to live in too. Being a native of queens born and raised, I couldn't live in the busier areas of manhattan, it's just too hectic around there for me. I'd need some spacious and quiet streets around me.
Once I start making real money, I definitely want a house around Nassau or Lawerence NY. The homes are huge there with lots of land and its only a 20 minute drive away from the city.
I also love queens because of its diversity, there's a general populous here that isn't as homogenous as other states or boroughs may have.
QC has a large jewish population from what I hear, but I think thats because of the large jewish community thats located very near to the campus. A lot of the kids tend to prefer studying locally and choose to go there. I believe CCNY on the other hand is one of the most diverse colleges in the country.
Harlem is looking pretty good these days. West side around the 140s is money. You could even go below 140th.
Not really hipster but decent amounts of gentrification. Yet it ain't nothing to cop a dime at the Habibi spot. Nice lil mix.
