What's the significance of a contract extension since they don't mean jack ****. Plenty of players sign these extension and get sold the following or next transfer window. I.E Batshuayi and Kovacic.

Don't get it twisted. Wenger is a penny pincher. He's publicly made negative comments about paying high transfer fees and wages for players. We missed out on alot of players because of his reluctance to spend. Even though the board and the owner are complicit in being cheap, Wenger ultimately has the final say on transfers.

That's a big reason why I miss David Dein. He held Wenger accountable and led so many of our transfers.

Preserves some market value for the selling club. It's difficult to convince a potential buyer to pay fair market value for a commodity they might be able to get for free in 6 - 12 months. If the player doesn't have a long term future at the club it still makes sense to recoup as much of the investment as possible.

I see both sides.. Ppl forget SAF became a company man towards the end of his tenure and constantly fed us fans the same "no value in the market" bs. Difference being he still managed to win trophies. And when he noticed he had to catch up he shelled out and bought best striker in the league.

It must not have been BS then.

There probably was quality on the market, but when you're producing quality and winning what's the point? He was probably looking at it as if there's nothing of equal or greater value to what we have right now there's no point.

That's honestly the mentality Arsenal has to take. Wenger has to take an honest look at what he has and ask himself "are these pieces really going to win us trophies?" Guys like Theo, Gibbs, Ramsey, etc have been around for a long time. There's definitely better quality available, why not upgrade if you're in that position?

One of the richest clubs in the world shouldn't be holding on to talent like that's the best they'll ever have again

The honest evaluation of arsenal is they have like 3.5 players that would start on EPL title & UCL winning teams until that number gets higher the results be the same.

'Toine was spitballing in an interview recently, talked about wanting to live/play in the US eventually. Specifically said he wasn't to live/play here so he can have season tix to NBA teams and go to every game he can... also mentioned playing for Becks in Miami would make sense fwiw

:lol cool to see he's a big basketball fan
