Down Goes Duke!

ESPN lay off all their editors, too?

Florida 11th Circuit Court Judge David Miller ruled that Williamson will be required to answer interrogatories and requests for admissions from attorneys representing Gina Ford and Prime Sports Marketing, who are suing Williamson for $100 million for beaching their marketing agreement.

i never understood how their nba coverage doesn't include a single black person, didn't realize same with the NFL.

A lot of desired talent is working for other media sites (ESPN, Yahoo, Fox, The Athletic, etc.) that do a lot more coverage than The Ringer does. People tend to gravitate towards those more traditional models. Also, they all have deep pockets to retain talent. The Ringer, even with the Spotify deal, is still not in the same realm as some of those media entities.

Maybe beaching means something, like how tabling something means to set it aside for later. Maybe beaching an agreement is like 'I'm going to put this agreement on vacation.'

It is not a recognized legal term, as far as I’m aware. But maybe I missed it. I’m due for some continuing legal education.

The Ringer plucked Kevin O'Connor from SB Nation and more or less made him the face of their NBA coverage. I think they can do something similar with a black writer.

Yeah it seemed like even when Bill started Grantland, he was going for uknown/lesser known names that he saw talent in. I had really only known KOC because he used to post on Reddit a bunch.

There's definitely non-white talent out there putting out good stuff that aren't signed to major companies.

Not hard to "pluck" someone from a site that doesn't pay its talent.

New York Knicks owner James Dolan sent an email to Madison Square Garden staff on Monday explaining why the organization has not commented on George Floyd's death or nationwide "Black Lives Matter" protests, according to ESPN's Malika Andrews.

To date, the Knicks are one of two NBA teams that have not released a statement on Floyd's death or the unrest that has followed — the San Antonio Spurs are the other.

According to Andrews, via a leaked email, Dolan wrote to staff, "As companies in the business of sports and entertainment, however, we are not any more qualified than anyone else to offer our opinion on social matters."

ESPN's Pablo Torre reported that Knicks players and staff are "furious" that the team hasn't released a statement.

In his email, Dolan acknowledged that some staff members have asked whether the team was going to comment. Dolan said he wanted staff to "understand our internal position," saying that the coronavirus pandemic and civil unrest has disrupted the way of life for many.

"We know that some of you have asked about whether our company is going to make a public statement about the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer. I want you to know, I realize the importance of this issue. Therefore, I want you to understand our internal position.

"This is a turbulent time in our country. The coronavirus and civil unrest have taken their toll on our way of life. We at Madison Square Garden stand by our values of a respectful and peaceful workplace. We always will."

Insider could not independently verify the leaked email. The Knicks did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to Andrews, Knicks guard Dennis Smith Jr. is one of several NBA players to participate in protests following Floyd's death.

"Our companies are committed to upholding our values, which include creating a respectful workplace for all, and that will never change," Dolan's email said.

"What we say to each other matters. How we treat each other matters. And that's what will get us through this difficult time."

As Stefan Bondy of The Daily News noted, Dolan is a supporter of President Donald Trump, having donated $300,000 to Trump's campaign in 2016 and $125,000 to his re-election campaign. Dolan told ESPN that he got married at Trump's resort in Mar-a-Lago. Trump has publicly condemned the protests, stating in an address on Monday that he would call for military intervention if states did not get the protests under control.

Damn even when they're not playing, the Knicks take L's

Down Goes Duke!

I'll actually advocate snitching in this case.

Tell em what they wanna know Zion

Not to pocket watch but how much are these dudes making? I have zero clue what top or low end salaries are in this industry.

Well, SB Nation's parent company, Vox, is still tied up in a class action suit over criminally underpaying its contributors. Deadspin did some great reporting on it, both before the lawsuit, and when court proceedings started. Also, I knew a guy who contributed to the Warriors site, and I asked him about contributing. He's a musician, so he had a lot of free time to contribute and said it is definitely not something you'd ever want to do full time.

Update: the typo was fixed.

As a former editor of my law school law review periodical, I can say it’s tough to catch everything.

But I hated that job and was very lazy at it, so my opinion should be considered with thay qualifier in mind.

True story: my mom owns a legal publishing company. I tried just proofreading for a bit. I'm a good editor when it comes to creative stuff, but that made my eyes bleed.

I'm not really too keen in telling people how to run their ****. Personally...I check the Ringer out...largely depending on what/who they're talking about...but I don't need them to pretend to care about diversity to placate me. I'd rather channel that energy to those of us that ARE in those spaces and look for and try to support budding talent out in the stratosphere.

I'm more prone to advocate for our own **** then looking for inclusion into their ****.
