Both got seemingly blackballed for it too :smh:

Mahmoud has a leg to stand on when it comes to being blackballed. Hodges not so much. He was declining specialist during a time period where teams didn't hold on to guys who excelled at only one thing. Plus he stopped knocking down shots his last 2 seasons in the league.

This is a more interesting subject than trying to project MJ’s scoring average in 2020 . Carry on.

At this point I probably shouldn’t be surprised by anything that goes on in here, but that topic lasting a whole day and a bunch of pages was unanticipated, to say the least.

Like full on projections of how many points he’d get from different distances on the court too . It was for more detailed than I expected, and so much conviction too.

^^^ It’s honestly a disservice to KD’s documentary to compare it to The Last Dance.

A documentary chronicling the rise and fall of a basketball dynasty featuring the best player of all time and one of the most recognizable people in the world is just on a whole different plane than In the Water in terms of probable target audience.

You can be a fan of MJ the hooper and still acknowledge he was morally bankrupt off the court without tryna make excuses or 'be fair' to him. Nobody's perfect.

Precisely....It’s why the Chamilionare story is believable. I actually find it more honest that MJ confirmed he actually said that (no matter the context), didn’t walk it back, say it wasn’t true or really try to clean it up in the doc.

Bruh cared about getting money and hooping. Didn’t wanna rock the boat at all. I’m sure he’s done plenty of good in the black community...but he for sure missed a great opportunity. And that is disappointing as hell.

That being said....late 80s for celebs like Mike, OJ etc...where they got lulled to sleep by success...is also a thing. I kinda introduced this topic last week....but we can touch on it, if you want.

Mike fell short, in the mid 90s with politics. For sure. I think in hindsight, he can see it. He ain’t rise to the occasion or follow tradition as being one of the ones (there is a black comfortability, detachment, surface level acceptance of white society and lull you to sleep game....that Mike & OJ....and other successful black people were under at the time...Ceime Bill we criticize now...was bipartisan and got major support from Black leaders etc. Its some more ****, I’d touch on with politics, race, sports etc....at another time. But it’s complex and a thing.

Mike understood it better than OJ tho....but it was a thing in the late 80s/90s). It’s a fair criticism of him Tho. He ain’t step up. Yo far from perfect.

That said....he’s done a lot of good, too. And from another brother to another....I think it’s clear how he rocking. He wanna see black folks win. He got blind spots, is selfish, a borderline degenerate and some other ****....but in the course of progress and specifically black progress...I think he on the right side of history.

We're all still pretending we hate Kevin Durant?
Who in here 'hates' him though besides maybe that one OKC fan?

Dudes can find some off his off court movement annoying while respecting the hell out of his game and place in history at the same time.

Don't really see people trying to **** on him out of the blue/randomly like some of the players who garner genuine hatred on here  (like Wade, Pierce, Steph, Bron etc)

I felt like he definitely tried to clean it up along with Obama speaking for him. It's just such a damning statement there's no real way to make it look like anything besides what it is.
