The Timepiece Thread vol: READ THE 1st POST!!!

Just had this talk in a watch group.. really wish rolex didn’t got to 42 with the explorer II

I get going to 42 for the yacht master which has the thicker case with the raised bezel

But for the flatter watches, think 40 or 39 is the biggest they should have gone

The only flatter watches I would say could size up is Daytona because that has more going on.. but that’s so much of a classic don’t see why’d you’d touch it.. but they did move the sub to 41, which I don’t kinda get

40 is perfect for the gmt and sub, figured those would be the fixtures.. and then mess with sizes for less popular models

But the 43 deepsea actually wears better to be than the 42 explorer II because of the case size
Yup I’d love 40mm explorer II

speaking of a sub… sticking with my 40mm

Anyone have any goals related to watches for 2025?

My goal is to only add one new watch to the box this year and save for a wedding watch come 2026.

Pretty content with everything I have right now so will be tough if there are some great releases this year, as I’d have to go one in-one out for anything more.

I wouldn’t mind a colorful dial for the summer but I’m sitting put on watches for a while. Would like to add a white speedy in the next few years.

the goal is really just to get a daytona or a snoopy and i refuse to pay resale prices so its not up to me unfortunately

those are honestly the only two "grails" for me i guess and it doesnt help that its the two that people go crazy for

im definitely adding the new steel 222 to the list but that is going to be close to impossible to get anytime soon as well

ive pretty much taken the 15550 out of my list, i guess the other goal is to not waste time with these people who obviously do not want my business

for example, i inquired about the 222 steel yesterday and already got 3 phone calls about it and 2 emails from their associate in the same day

Just trying to add another piece. I'm on the list for a batgirl at a couple of places so I'll see if I get the call this year.

You fellas are definitely the experts I've been looking at this thread lately and it's very inspiring. I'm not in the tax bracket of some of you gentlemen at all but I was looking for advice on picking up my first timepiece as I've gotten older it's something I've really become more interested in. At the current time my budget is between 17k and 19k but I could always hold out and stack a lot more. I really do like rolexes but I'm curious to know what would you suggest that that price point if that was the budget that you had.
Thank you guys in advance and Happy New Year to you all!!

First off, that’s a healthy budget so don’t let comparison be the thief of joy. You can get multiple incredible watches with that money.

Second, I’d ask if you want just one watch that you’re going to wear for the rest of your life or are you looking to start building a collection?

Either way, my biggest recommendation is don’t spend that budget on your first watch. Go to a dealer and try on a bunch of different watches and see what you like. Do you like the look of a dive watch with a bezel, like the Submariner? Or do you like a more formal/dressy style, like a Datejust?

Once you have a better idea of that, I’d consider starting with something like a Longines or Tudor and wearing that for six months to see if you really do like it like you thought you would. You can jump in with a Rolex on day one, but if you get something that doesn’t necessarily match your lifestyle or you don’t like to wear it like you thought you might, you’re going to have a really expensive desk weight.

Welcome to the thread!
