a lot, maybe even most of communication is non verbal so i'd agree that someone behaving as man here is willfully ignoring the obvious, not sure it should justify the spaz out tho...
i get not wanting to open the proverbial door to conversation/small talk, still...both actions seem like bit condescending of each other

he definitely took a bunch of consecutive left turns that were very specific to her being a woman, so nah i would not expect that the interaction would play out similarly (her even playing that way is on the strengths of being a woman) but i do think it would still be type crazy to completely ignore being addressed with a standoffish countenance to a store employee just making small talk...
