I actually got called for interview on my first app. I think I got lucky. The clipper twitter account sent out a link to apply, Applied while at my job and got a call the next day
1. So what was a basic day like for you?
Game days we had to be there at 4:30 for dinner or 5pm for work. My department was in charge of the national anthems, halftime shows, big fan groups (filipino heritage night, chinese new year, youth programs etc), meet and greets and other things of that nature. So I would show up at 4:30, eat, then go to the office to find our what my job was that day. We would rotate every game. For example, I was in charge of the national anthem when Zendaya did it so I just had to hang out with her and walk her through the arena and show her how to get the the court.
Non-game days you could volunteer for office hours. That usually was spreadsheets and other boring stuff. You could also volunteer for basketball camps but i wasn’t really able to do those cuz of my job.
2. How long was the position? Which Years?
I don’t remember the years exactly but it was for sure the lockout season and the season after that. I think that would have been CP3’s first two years. We beat the grizz in the first round my first year, los
3. Coolest LAC Staff Members? Jason Powell seems like a cool dude.
He’s actually the only staff member I really interacted with he was cool though. I also got to talk to Brian Sieman a bunch. He was dope. He was doing radio back then but he’s now the Play by play guy on TV. The coolest players were Nick Young and DJ. Oh, and Harden. I think I mentioned this but one of my homegirls who also interned used to “date” Demar Derozan in HS and I guess Demar and Harden were friends back then cuz she knew him too. After games, we used to just shoot around for an hour or so while the visiting team mingled with their friends and family on the other side of the court. Harden came over to our side and shot around/chilled with us for a 15/20 min every time we played them. That was dope.
4. Perks other than free tickets?
Twice a season they made the courts available for us for a full day of runs. That was one of the coolest memories I have. Playing a full 5 on 5 on your favorite team’s court, in the arena. Super dope. Free food, free gear, and getting to talk basketball with NBA legends. I met Dominque wilkins at dinner and talked to him about the current season and Blake’s dunks vs his
5. Did yall eat for free?
yea there was a special intern dinner every game night and my supervisor would also hook me up with staples center food vouchers. And it was said that had we won a championship we would have also received some type of rings. That would have been amazing if true.
