facebook has longevity for me because it's a good way to keep up with my fam and close friends who are spread out over the country. good to see how people are doing, seeing photos from weddings, graduations, and other things I had to miss because of distance/time.
I do need to cut back on the amount of time I spend on there though, huge time waster

go out and do what you enjoy doing... you'll meet other who have the same interest in you, and develop friendships
example: like playing basketball? go to the courts and become a regular... eventually grab food with the guys after playing
example: enjoy art/music? find expo's and events going on in the town and go meet people
it all comes down to two major things in my opinion...
1) confidence
