Happy 30th anniversary to the Sony PlayStation.

I was a very young man when they both came out. I ended buying both eventually.I remember being on the fence about whether to choose a Sega Saturn or Playstation back in the day. That $299 price tag certainly make the choice a lot easier than the $399 for a Saturn.
It took me a good few weeks before I could actually afford a game after I got my PS1, but I had a great time with the demo disk. Jumping Flash, Toshinden, Wipeout and some Extreme sports type of game. I remember watching the full motion video for Tekken 1 and Philosoma and thinking it can't get any better then this
NBA Jam and Mortal Kombat 3 were my first games. Warhawk was my first original Playstation game.
The Saturn’s roll out in Japan wasn’t any better. Okay quite a bit since the Japanese were geeked for Virtua Fighter and Sega’s arcade pedigree. Problem is the PlayStation had much better looking 3D games. Daytona is a better game than Ridge Racer. But the Saturn port was chugging at double digit choppy frames. While Ridge Racer looked close to the arcade (was it? No. The frames were only 30, less geometry, etc plus the game had no replay value). I think that first year, it was probably close especially with VF2, Sega Rally and Virtua Cop released. But then in America we got Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot and a few more titles. Plus Sony America started churning out sports titles (as well as the other developers). America didn’t care for those arcade titles. And it just got worse with FF7, Resident Evil, etc. And Nintendo dropped the N64, which fractured the market more. Sega was ducked.Does anyone else subscribe to the notion that the Saturn's rollout in the states led to many already downplaying the Dreamcast before it dropped?? I think I only knew of a few folks that parent's bought them a Saturn. The console itself had some good games but its lack of popularity compared to the Genesis was really telling imo.
Plus them releasing all those damn accessories like the 32x and CD were huge misfires. At some old swap meet I remember seeing that other VR-like add on they had for fighting games.
I actually bought that when it came out. I recall the emulation wasn’t great. Probably better to emulate or just get the weird arcade stick/AV output.Any Neo Geo owners here?
Going to wait until after Christmas to pickup the Neo Geo X.

^^^Plus you’d need a CRT or to mod the original hardware.
If you’re a collector, it’s worth it to have the first “24-bit” system that has classics. But if it’s just to play the very old games, emulation is easier.
How’s the quality and everything on the Evercade bar top system? I thought about getting the street fighter one for my mancaveToday's mail:
I think I bought two AES consoles. Was the RGB a mod? Felt like it was.I've got a 36" trinitron still going strong and the RGB output from the AES looks amazing.

And then I had a modded PSone controller modded to the AES controller port. That thing broke quick.
So mad I sold my collection at a loss back when.
