The RETRO Gaming Thread!

I just watched the ending for that TMNT game. Splinter turned back human? The End, lol. It looks like beating Shredder was a breeze, surprisingly. Game was too hard. I would get to the point where you’re driving the turtle van and just be happy with that.
This is too true

You were able to beat the game? Maaaaannnn, you are a legit top tier player. Especially when you recall there was no YouTube to give us a heads up, lol. Nice work bro :emoji_fire:

Club-Nintendo-Magazine-Volume-4-Issue-1-and.jpg

there was indeed no YT but i had a subscription for a dutch videogame magazine that was called club nintendo magazine and was published by nintendo, when you buy a nintendo, (S)NES or GB cartridge it comes with an card, you fill that in and send it back and you will get a free monthly subscription for club nintendo magazine, in the magazine they show you walk throughs, tips, tricks and hidden cheats from SNES, NES and GB games, thats how i have managed to beat the first TMNT game but even with the help from the magazine it still took me around 7-8 months before i eventually have beaten the game

Old school games were too difficult because they haven't a lof of memory and they know if parents spend a lot for a game at least their kids got to play it a lot, if they finish it in one day...
Especially on cartridges, this support was very expensive...Plus games weren't for a lot of people, mostly kids who can't complain as their parents bought them or some adults, but not like today

About great but very difficult games : SWAT 4, this one is incredible in so many ways, realistic, really immersive, and unforgivable.
Just kept dying for one hour at only normal difficulty at the 6th level

First I tried to not play it lethal but as some have gas masks they made me do it

Not seen yet but this video must be exciting as there are a lot to say about it, and James Bond goes perfectly with FPS

Was playing for 3 hours to Half Life: Opposite Force when...freeze
Great game, so addictive you don't want to stop it, haven't done Blue Shift yet, just began a year or years ago, but from my HL1's games and my Opposite Force's ones, I prefer the second one, love the military vibe in it, plus if my memories are correct, less Xen, which is perfect according to me...

The game is available on Steam for those who didn't try it yet

Wanted badly to buy Rainbow Six for years, I'm going to press the button for the bundle at that price, don't know if it's available overseas at the same price though
Epic and Steam provide a lot + GOG too, PC games illimited, old games always have something to offer in terms of gameplay

= 16.53 $

EDIT : Might just take Rainbow Six 3 Gold
EDIT 2 : Ended to buy only R6 3 Gold for 1.24 euros, and as I had 0.37 euros it only costed me 0.87 euros, unbelievable if you were born in the eighties

Also for the System Shock lovers (1994), there's a free demo on Steam of its remaster, haven't tested it yet, just downloaded it

Were video games expensive in France in the 80s and 90s?

Super Mario Kart 499 ou 599 Francs I can't remember exactly, but I would say 599 Francs
DBZ : Hyper Dimension 599 Francs

599 Francs from about 1995 = 127.01 Euros from 2020 = 151.01 $

499 Francs from about 1995 = 105.80 euros = 125.78 $

When we had a game we beat it so choice of the game was very important at the time, that's why Super Mario World or Zelda III were great choices, you didn't want to take too many risks chosing something especially original back in the days, because you would have to deal with it for long time...I remember still playing with my SNES while I had my N64, some 2D platform games can't just be beaten by 3d platform games, early 3D is hard but there is a time between beginings of 3D an now I appreciate, some old school 3D with only the essentials on screens, so when you play this kind of FPS it's very pleasant because you see what you got to see, so you're less tired if you play for a long time, Half-Life 1, GoldenEye, Unreal, this era

here in the netherlands new released NES games cost between 55 and 75 euro, 70-75 euro was for the popular titles like double dragon, SMB3, megaman, ninja gaiden and TMNT and the less popular games were all 55-65 euro and from time to time games will go on discount and you can then get NES game for 35-60 euro depending on which title it is, or you go mod your PAL NES with a chip so that you can play NTSC region famicom bootleg multi carts with an famicom cartridge extension, 7-15 in 1 was 25 euro, 16-25 in 1 was 30 euro and 26-35 in 1 was 35 euro, for 30 euro you can get yourself a cartridge with all the 6 megaman games, 3 ninja gaiden games, 4 TMNT games, 3 double dragon games, 2 bubble bobble games and 2 ducktales games etc etc

Resident Evil 2 on N64 in France was super rare (like Tony Hawk Skateboarding on N64) and was at 80 euros, I only found it near Paris, firstable I found a kid or teen who wanted to sell it in another region, in the French North West, but I was young so I told him to not sale it to the video games stores because he would lose money and me too buying it, while he could sell it to me for a better price, for himself like for me, but I hadn't a cellular and I had an unexpected event so I missed the rendez-vous

Perfect Dark and Conker's bad Fur Day were also expensive
