It was only until I tried to recreate it that I gained a true appreciation for what a masterpiece it is.
A lot of people couldn't come up with that. To piece them together the way he did and then when the piano comes in in the middle.
What made him so great was his ear for samples and the way he used them. The way he could layer them in a song to create depth and a wonderful atmosphere.
He would take the tiniest snippets from songs and manage to meld them together in a way that most people couldn't and didn't even try to before him.
It's why he influenced so many of his peers and those who came after him. There are only 2 others that I consider to be close to his level. Madlib and Nujabes.
Fun fact: Dilla and Nujabes were born on the same day of the same year. 02/07/1974 the world was blessed with greatness
