Housemarque: PS4 Is "Powerful Enough To Blow Your Pants off", Will Use Touchpad In Unexpected Ways

“We have worked on many platforms in the past. On development side the two are not all that different; only instead of hard-to-program SPUs that require assembly-level programming if you want to extract the full potential, we have compute shaders that are easy to program and most of the cumbersome scaffolding is now in the GPU hardware. One difference is that when things go wrong, PS3 GPU crashes but PS4 GPU hangs

“As for power, anyone can look up the figures on paper. It is powerful enough to blow your pants off.”

Krueger also revealed that they will be using the touchpad on the DualShock 4 and state that most users won’t expect what they have in mind for it. “We will be using the touchpad, and not only to scroll menus. We can’t go into details now but we believe people are not expecting what’s coming.”

Keeping in mind that Warframe dev Digital Extremes took only 3 months to get the game running on PS4, we asked how long it took to get RESOGUN going. “It took a little longer. I don’t know how many people were working for Warframe on PS4; we had mainly two, one long-time veteran and one relatively new hire. A few others helped, too, but the graphic engine takes the lion’s share of the effort.”

Finally, we asked Krueger about what kind of multiplayer component we can expect from RESOGUN. “For multiplayer, we’re planning on having at least the traditional online co-op mode, so you’ll be able to play through the normal game’s levels with a friend, online.

“Of course, everything that you’ll experience in single player – all the destruction, the effects, the amount of enemies, the solid framerate – all of that will remain intact in the multiplayer mode. We’re also interested in spicing up the multiplayer to make sure players keep coming back for more, so it’s possible we might add some extra features there to make things more exciting.”

Dude saying he doesn't understand the business sense in not making systems backwards compatible...

Yea... makes no sense...

Yeah this and also having to include a hardware or software emulator that will drive up the price of a console.

That's one of the reasons why PS3 was $600 when it first came out.The OG Fat 60GB PS3 had the Enotion Engine Chip in it that made that PS3 console full backwards compatible with PS1 & PS2 games.

That's why the 60gb is so sought after...even to this day.

Also add that the 60gb's are flashable and capable to downgrade for CFW

thought that time splitters hd collection was real than i realized free radical is no more

i was like "why is there a SCE logo on there?"

Not really.

I still see a couple of them for sale on craigslist but they don't sell for crazy prices anymore like they use to back in like 2009.I sold mine back then on my local craigslist for $450 locally.Nowadays you can get these for like $160 to $200 on craigslist.

This late in this console gen I would seriously be scared & weary of buying any FAT model PS3 right now.

The failure rate on them with YLOD is :x :{

info as in where to watch, etc.

Sony’s Tokyo Game Show Keynote Will Provide “Detailed Specification” of PS4 and its Exclusive Games
Sony will hold two conferences for Tokyo Game Show. The first, actually held the day before the event on September the 18th, will give specific information related to the Japanese and Asian market.

The second and more mysterious will be held on September the 19th at 10:30 AM local time, and will be titled “The World Created by Playstation 4”. So far we didn’t have much information on its contents and topics, and interestingly enough even the title is still officially marked as “tentative” just three days before it’s held.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia finally provided a brief blurb on what the conference will entail, and it’s quite interesting:

“Playstation 4” is the next generation computer entertainment system which will be released by Sony Computer Entertainment towards the end of this year, 2013. Detailed specification of this latest system and its exclusive software titles and the new gaming experience that can be realized with the “Playstation 4” platform will be introduced together with the latest information.

I’m positively curious on what kind of “detailed specification” will be provided exactly. The hosts on stage definitely have the competence to go quite in depth on both business and technical topics, as we’ll see Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House, Division President of Business Division 1 Masayasu Ito and SCE Worldwide Studio President Shuhei Yoshida.

Unfortunately no information about the keynote being livestreamed was provided, which makes it unlikely at this stage.

September the 21st - Start at 10 AM Local Time (September the 20th, 9 PM EDT)

Looks like a nice schedule, with quite the variety in the line-up. It’s worth mentioning that for the moment Sony did not specify when each game will appear on stage.

In a Nutshell

18th: pre-TGS SCEJA press conference.
19th : TGS opening keynote "The World PS4 Creates" & Sony TGS stage event (This won't be streamed)
21st : Sony TGS stage event
22nd : Sony TGS stage event ( There's also an event for Japanese indie devs but that won't be live streamed either)

Heads up for anyone who pre-ordered on Amazon and is in Georgia. You need to change your payment method so the order will calculate tax. Otherwise the payment could be declined. Just a FYI.

Had my GTA V order payment declined.

More Info On Deep Down

The game is set in New York, year 2094. The members of a group called “Ravens” (the players) have the special ability to travel back in time by reading the memory of items and listening to the voice of the past. They can travel to the past by using the information they read from the items.

The game is called a “Reading RPG” for two reasons: first because of the idea of “reading memories” mentioned above, and then because of the theme of “reading emotions” The emotional theme comes from the fact that various dungeons correspond to different emotions. For instance by touching a statue and reading its emotions one can feel the grudges of a vicious mind that will then characterize the resulting dungeon.

The theme of “knowing the truth of the past” is also present, and that’s the Ravens’ purpose.

Capcom wanted to make an online only game to do something different from the past experiences of Monster Hunter and Dragon’s Dogma, in order to enjoy the online gameplay without restriction, on a platform (the PS4) that has an inseparable relationship with online gaming.

By playing with friends one can exchange the information gathered from dungeons and further the investigation of the mystery behind Deep Down.

It’s still possible to play solo, and gamers should begin like that in order to get familiar with the game, then they should challenge the dungeons alongside other Ravens.

Ono-san wants to reduce the barriers between players and online gameplay, in order to reassure those that are hostile to the idea of always online games.

Since players are supposed to play the game for a long time, like most online games, large updates have already been scheduled, and they will happen on a regular basis. Capcom will continue to develop the game after release in order to let players feel the changes regularly.

There will be a beta after the release of the PS4, and Ono-san wants it to begin as soon as possible.

Sony has created an easy development environment for the PS4, and that’s a welcome change.

The quality showcased in the PlayStation Meeting in February was reached considerably quickly, and things like 60 frames per seconds are relatively easy to achieve.

The automatic generation of dungeons is achieved thanks to the power of the PS4. It’s not completely random, but automatically generated according to certain parameters. Since the PS4 has specs similar to a PC, dungeons can be generated like this thanks to its memory capacity and computing speed.

The representation of environments is close to photo realistic, and elements like degradation of weapon and armor will also be displayed graphically. The PS4 is able to calculate the accumulation of mold, dirt and rust on equipment and display it on the textures, giving you the sensation that those items really exist in the world.

The light bar on the DualShock 4 will represent the emotions of the dungeon being played. When a Raven listens to the voice of the past, it will come from the speaker on the controller, in order to increase immersion. The touchpad will also be used for tactile features.

Remote play with PS Vita will be fully supported in order to play the game more comfortably. The team is also thinking on how to use smartphone and tablets.

All my interest in this game evaporated once these new screens and information came out. Sounds like Capcom's version of Assassin's Creed.

SAME HERE.
