The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

Right? I mean there will be Call of Duty 2014 and then Call of Duty 2015.

Yea we all know thats all Xbox has to offer :lol

Please, enlighten us on what Microsoft 1st party studios have released in the past 9 months? What is on tap for the next 6-9?

Even Microsoft stans openly admit Microsoft has abandoned 360 for the future. But I'm sure you have a convincing argument.

I never used more than 4 player local even though the PS3 supported 7 or 8. Even 4 player local can get ridiculous. I remember using the multi-tap for the original PlayStation and playing NHL or NBA Live with my friends and cousins forgetting which coloured circle I was. :lol

I really only play local multiplayer for games like PS All-Stars: Battle Royale. Everything else is online.

PS4 has a one week headstart in America but a one week deficit in Europe (for tier 1 countries)

November should be fun.

Fire could send memory prices soaring

A massive fire on Wednesday at a factory in Wuxi, China owned by Korea’s SK Hynix could send flash memory and random-access memory (RAM) prices soaring. Hynix is the world’s second largest memory manufacturer.

According to early reports on Chinese technology news websites and blogs, the fire has forced SK Hynix to suspend all operations at the facility.

Bloomberg reports that the company is still ascertaining if there were any casualties and investigating the cause of the fire. According to the news wire, the fire started at 3.50pm local time.

“Hynix has a 25% global market share in DDR and flash memory,” says David Kan, CEO of JSE-listed computer assembler and technology distributor Mustek.

“At this stage, we don’t know how big the impact will be, but all [memory] suppliers have stopped quoting prices,” Kan says. “We will have a better update and more information in next couple of days.”

He says that, similar to the floods in Thailand in 2011 that had a huge knock-on effect on the price of computer hard drives and their availability, the incident at the SK Hynix factory “could impact the DDR and flash memory market just as significantly”.

Posted this in the PC thread but it applies here as well.

Shipments of GDDR5 chips have been halted so that the other Companies which produce them know what to price theirs at.
Nvidia gets their GDDR5 chips from them but we don't know where Sony gets theirs but It's going to affect everyone.

Worse case scenario could be shortages next year

15 minutes of new Watch Dogs PS4 gameplay. Shows the multiplayer towards the end . This looks like it will give The Last Of Us and GTA5 a run for there money as GOTY

I don't know how you watch that clip and come to that conclusion. :lol

i dont understand how the person can just jump over a few boxes into a security control company and not be caught on camera :lol

As soon as someone posts, "Real gamers do this..." I stop reading.
Word.....and imo PS3 still has some legs left with GTAV and Ratchet & Clank etc. especially to those who are younger that won't end up getting the system on launch or for Christmas. They'll continue to get games for the PS3. Also those who usually just buy and play only the 2Ks/Maddens/CoDs may not see the need to upgrade so immediately with these games coming to currrent gen too. Add that with GTAV and you have 4 games that have tons of replay value to the casual gamer

Just watched that WatchDogs video and it still looks unappealing to me. Plus it looks like nobody will ever succeed in hacking another player lol

watchdogs is basically letting you troll people.

If there are helis in watchdogs, it'll be easy to hack people.

What happens when you're hacked?

Inside PS4's new VR headset

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-09-04-inside-new-ps4-vr-headset

Officially, Sony isn't talking about the device, citing its long-standing policy of not commenting on rumor and speculation. But people in the know say the company is making a major push with the technology - even greater than it did with the PlayStation Move three years ago. (Like the Move, the headset will be sold separate from the console.)

The headset uses the PS4's PlayStation Eye camera, like Move did, for head tracking. This, say people who have used it, makes the headset even more accurate than the Oculus Rift - though it does present some aesthetic challenges.

The headset will track your head movements while the camera will also help and detect where you move in 3D space. What also makes this great is that you can pair it with move controllers.

Imagine holding a move controller but through the VR headset you see a sword or lightsaber

At present, the working prototype for the headset, which select developers currently have in house, looks much like Oculus' better-known VR system - with ping pong balls attached. The design is not expected to be final.

While there have been reports that the system will make its debut at this year's Tokyo Game Show, those appear inaccurate. Sony does not wish to distract buyers in the days leading up to the PS4's launch - and, as yet, there are not enough games that can showcase the technology.

People with knowledge of the product say they believe the headset will launch in the fall of 2014, but that date, too, is subject to change.

No reveal at TGS so probably E3 or earlier.

While this isn't Sony's first time experimenting with virtual reality, it does appear to be the company's most serious. Several years ago, developers at GDC showcased a prototype game using the Personal 3D Viewer to select members of the media, though no version was ever released for that system. (That could be because the product was expensive and never sold in the North American market.)

The headset could be a differentiator for the PS4 - and could be part of the reason Sony is so aggressively targeting independent developers in the upcoming generation. Microsoft is not believed to be working on similar technology - and Oculus has said its focus with the Rift is PC and mobile technology.

VR if done right can be huge and they will have a headstart unless MS buys Oculus Rift.
They already have a demo internally for Driveclub with the headset so you know Polyphony Digital will have something cooking up fort Gran Tursimo 7.

Here's a couple of videos from the guys who made Datura showing how it could work using the old HMZs. This is only a basic setup though. I expect the PS4 version to me much better
