Take a look at this article from Gizmodo.

If you want one from the list you have, I'd suggest the 28-135mm.
You can get the 28-135mm lens for about $200 on the photo forums.
I recommend that you try out some zoom lenses before making a decision on any one of those primes.
Since you're new to photography, you're going to like the flexibility of a zoom.


Edit:
I'd also suggest the Tamron 17-55mm.
It can be had for about $450 and there's some rebates on it that can make it a little cheaper.
Slightly out of your price range, but it's a heavily praised lens.

Also if you aren't looking for anything quick, get the Tokina 12-14. It will be wider then the Tamron and you can get one for a little under $400 on Craigslist (I always see them go for $375 around my way but used). Everyone is trying to sell them to get the 11-16mm I assume. Only thing is don't expect to shoot that thing in the dark without a flash unless you use a tripod.
 
^ That lens would be dope even on a Cropped sensor. I would still opt for the Sigma 10mm f/2.8 though, at just a fraction of the price, and faster.

i shoot with a 35mm 1.8 and when i shoot products like the 11s... the toe is is not in focus like the pic above. is this an aperture issue? am i stuck on 1.8? how does one get the whole thing in focus?

Distance and aperture play a significant role on much you want the subject(s) to be in focus...  I stopped down my 85L to f/2.8 to get most of the Space Jam focused while still creating enough "bokeh" to separate the subject from the background...  I'm sure I could've done the same at f/1.8, but I would have to step back a few feet to get the same DOF effect...  It's something you'll have to gauge while your shooting...  Anyhoo...  A few more "Jordan Product" photography for ya'll...  Enjoy...

I am looking to do a trailing tail lights kind of shot later this evening in a parking lot w/ my boys car. Right now I am working with a T2i + 50mm 1.8. I don't suspect I should run into any problems minus setting the camera still on something for a longer exposure. Any other problems I could run into?
 
^With a long exposure, you may run into an issue with the stability of your camera, the shots might come out real shaky so you'll need a tripod or a steady surface.

Sometimes, when I'm real unsure about the white balance that I should use for the shot, I just shoot in RAW so that when I edit the photos using RAW, I have the option of changing the WB.
 
yea I don't have a tripod at the moment..but am gonna bring something i can put the camera to sit on
 
Have any of you tried/completed a 365 project? I just started mine and I'm just wondering how other people come up with ideas.
