The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Don't have a zoom lens to shoot the moon tonight but the weather is perfect here in the bay. I was looking to get a remote shutter by this weekend nothing professional just wanted to do some long exposure stuff on my 6D. Any recommendations?

Just did a quick search and came across these. Last one is better because of the timer but I've never heard of the brand. Haven't done any research on it either. Would prefer to get it off amazon since I have prime lol

You wouldn't happen to have a phone with an IR blaster would you? I have an app on my phone that lets me use it as a remote shutter. Pretty simple but works for me.

Oh yeah, use to use this on my HTC One.

It was a hit or miss for me. It did work most of the time tho.

Just tried that and the app just freezes on my phone. I have an LG G3 to so in theory it should work, the app didn't even ask me to put in the camera model.

I just came back from outside. Shooting a damn moon with a full frame is just so dumb. My moon wasn't even worth posting.

I kind of had a failed weekend of shooting. I feel like i have been on a slump for some reason. These are the only two that I liked and the bottom one was shot with my Canon 24mm. I love the 70-200mm that I rented but just couldn't utilize it as much as I wanted to.

that sucks, hopefully you learned something for the next time, though shooting with a full frame could be advantageous for moon/astrophotography if you are using a lens with a good reach or a with a telescope because on full frame you would be gathering more light,...200mm doesn't really have the reach for getting a really detailed image of the moon without teleconverters, after trying for myself last night a figured out even at the the long end of a 70-300 on a crop body (450mm equivalent) or full frame it is really difficult to get really details shots

^^^^^Yeah....I guess I should have known that the 200mm wasn't going to be any good. Make sense why the girl was asking if I wanted to rent the 400mm or 600mm but I had to buy insurance for it.

I just looked up David Yu from Flickr fame that shoots moons and he shot this moon photo with a 600mm with two teleconverters on a Nikon mirrorless which comes to about 2400mm!!!

His camera must look like this:

:lol that lens gonna break ol' boy in half

son needs to hit the weights prior lugging that thing around

Idk if I'm late to the Instagram party but mine is

I'd love any feedback. Had to take a medical break but I'm back trying to take and learn on pics

^^^^Neat to see everyone's photos. That was my initial intent was to shoot the moon behind something to give it depth but it rouse out of the sky without us knowing since there was clouds. I should have gotten underneath a bridge like most of the guys in SF rather than trying to shoot it behind the skyline.

This was an NTers photo that was put up a couple of minutes ago:

Damn, I was hella trying to find anyone going out to shoot last night, but it didn't help that I was driving up from SoCal most of the day and got into the City at 6:30. Did anyone peep Hawk Hill??? There were so many heads there they shut it down and wouldn't let anyone drive up, so I drove back down towards Chrissy Field and only managed these:

I should have went down to the Embarcadero like I had originally planned or even further down Chrissy Field cuz I couldn't get last night's moon focused in for ish like I did the super moon in August taken with the same camera and same lens (d700 and 70-200) as the shots above:

Nah I wouldn't be able to tell. I'm guessing it the water area on the right side that's level with her eyes?

nah it was above her head where the white of the water turns green/blue, extending to the right

I couldn't even tell too. I even took your photo into PS to see if I could see the clone marks and found nothing.

And nice job on that moon up there. How long did it take you to get it to travel that long?

You talking about the one I posted?

Nah, that's not mine. Found it on reddit.

Lightroom folks - do noise reduction and sharpening cancel each other out?

To be honest the only thing I like about this image is your lighting/editing ... The model seem uninterested and the post is not very flattering. If like she was caught off guard or trying to hide her stomach or something.

Anyways, still a good edit for sure.
