The Official NBA Season Thread: I’m like Jayson Tatum in the Olympics I'm not playing

Also Point Guard defense is kinda irrelevant. They are always the weakest link due to size, and most of the times the ones that actually do impact defensively are specialist. GP being an exception.

Kidd/Payton aren’t even in the ballpark offensively. And the defensive ability they certainly have over Nash isn’t remotely as important.

Defense wasn’t remotely important but GP and Kidd both somehow eventually won rings…

Dirk won a ring without Nash eventually:lol:

To be fair he said best offensive PG's not scoring PG's. Nash would account for about 40 to 50 points alone nightly. Like Trae Young he's was an offensive machine

… and Trae’s defense is equally bad.

What’s the point of being a great offense… when you’re lack of defense cancels it out :lol :lol

Nash accounting for 40-50 while giving up 25+ points to whoever he was guarding:lol :rollin

People forget J-Kidd almost beat out Duncan for MVP in 2003. His first season with the Nets. He also was responsible for 30-40+ points a game.

Nash, Stockton, Trae Young and Russell Westbrook are the same player. Volume guys with no defense

Im just saying a great coach and great scheme can hide a Point Guard on defense and win championships. Warriors have done it for years. However being a great offensive cog is vital to be a elite point guard. I see where your coming from, I just think you are over valuing defense. A lot of the top point guards of all time were not lockdown defenders. Most guards that are lockdown are back ups

Nash NEVER scored over 20 a season, you don’t even know basketball if you left Isaiah Thomas out as one of the best scoring PGs. Chris Paul also.

Steve Nash don’t belong in the same conversation as Magic or Oscar

Gary Payton scored 20+ points 5+ times in his career

1. Lol who cares?

Nash's team put up literally the most efficient offense in the history of basketball, they lost their second best player and did it again with Nash running the show.

Scoring 20ppg is an arbitrary number, if you played Nash for the pass he could turn it up as an individual scorer.

2. I said best offensive PG's I didn't say "best individual scoring PGs"

Basketball is about the team scoring not one guy scoring.

What about his DEFENSE:lol:

He's a PG, it's just not that big of a deal. Suns had league average defense without playing a center real center.

Nash was fine, he's smart, know where to be, takes charges. You could hide him easily.

There was no HIDING Steve Nash

Isaiah Thomas, GP and Kidd all got rings

Trae Young, and Westbrook probably won’t win rings, just like Nash and Stockton

You can keep adding emojis it doesn't make your argument anymore convincing.

If Nash was so bad how did they have a league average defense with no center?

If Nash was really so horrible surely the defense should be worse playing Amar'e at Center.

Destroyed. Every time.

Nobody cares about your team average 120ppg…. But giving up 110+ on defense

They played small ball but still had a number of 6’10”+ guys. They had Shaq and Shawn Marks. Even though off the bench.

This notion that PHX only had guys 6’8” and under is false. They had a number of bench players in the 6’10”, 6’11” range

Only 2 teams go to the finals every year. Every elite pg teams are looking for today literally have Nash skillset. Defense be dammed. He could create for others at a high level. And won plenty of games in both of his MVP seasons. D'antoni's system only works if your a elite creator i.e Nash or Harden

Did 2005-2011 Phoenix do it though…?

Difference is Celtics have Jrue Holiday, PHX had Nash

Team defense is still more important.

You can win with a PG where the other team would attack. Happened with Kyrie, Curry, Tony Parker, etc.

I don’t hear anyone from this generation saying they modeled their game after Steve Nash :lol :lol :lol :lol

None of these guys ever acknowledge Nash
