They’re still fine. The new, super lucrative TV deals didn’t go anywhere. The franchises are still more valuable than ever. NBA players are still bigger stars individually than guys from other sports (except for a few NFL quarterbacks and Shohei Ohtani).

The fact that ratings are trending down a bit in November isn’t really probative of a long term problem.

Enjoy your premature I-told-you-so though.

Opening Knicks pacers at the garden had lower ratings than a random ACC football game between 2c teams that I can't even remember.

Unfortunately if the teens keep going in this direction, changes will need to be made. It won't matter much about the current tv deals if you have to backtrack on the next deal.

That's what it's all about... The next deal.

To add, I believe that Mark Cuban saw the writing on the wall and got out while he could sell at it's highest point.

And, I wonder how many defending NBA champs were for sale less than a year after winning a ring?

On a given possession the players are moving around way more though.

Players are now spaced further apart on the court, which requires more running to cover greater distances for defensive rotations, closeouts, and offensive movement to find open shots. There's just a more advanced offense, which requires the players to move more—both the offensive players to execute the sets and the defensive players to tag along and defend them.

Tracking data shows players typically run 2-3 miles during a game. I don't think it goes back as far as the 80s but the players were just standing around way more.

The court has always been 94 feet. I'm pretty sure if there's a small distance that the 80s players didn't cover due to "less movement" in half court action, that difference was all but made up in 10 extra trips up and down the court, Missy likely at fast break pace. Even if it still falls short by let's say .25 miles per outing, does that justify the about of injuries and missing time due to load management?

I'm not so sure about that.

LOL. You’re way ahead of yourself, man. There’s still 7 months of season left. Playoffs are when the rating matter most anyway.

And personally, I’m waiting to see what things look like when the new broadcast partners get involved since there’s a lot of room for improvement over what ESPN and TNT are offering. Could help if the league’s broadcast partners actually promote teams and players as opposed to the negativity that Shaq and Barkley, etc. are always offering.

I'm not so sure about that.

IMO.

You're forgetting the part where nobody played defense in the '80s. Playing defense is really hard these days and it's likely leading to more injuries.

• Losing Melton really hurt this team, didn't expect it to be this bad.

• Its time to make a consolidation trade. There is no one that I can confidently expect to go get a bucket besides Steph

NBA is fine, especially Globally in China and they are slowly getting very popular in India, a 2 billion person market that none of the other major sports have even come close to tapping into
