I'll agree that Nellie is important to our team. His philosophy has been instilled and the players bought into it. He is a reason why we were able to go to the playoffs in 2007.
But, let's also look at the other end of the spectrum. He is the reason also why it's very, very, very likely that we'll never win a championship. His philosophy, style, hardheadedness, and defensive mind (or lack there of) is a big reason why we'll never win.
His philosophy and style will work to a certain degree but when the team has us overmatched and whatnot, Nellie's response to that is to go smaller? And if that doesn't work, he's going to go even smaller? I don't think so.
His hardheadedness is also tied into his philosophy and style. He won't change. He can't conform. He refuses to. Example is when we're vs Utah, Nellie opts to play smaller players? He opts to sacrifice defense for offense but we get crush, manhandled, obliterated inside. It's not even just vs Utah, it's on a nightly basis. A rebuttal for that is the "we are one of the top scorers in the paint" line but that's due in large part to our fast breaking. Another example of Nellie's hardheadedness is him only have an 8 man rotation. Our style of offense takes a lot out of you. It's designed to be high energy and Nellie only plays 8 guys? This is a big reason why we were dead tired at the end of last season. We couldn't close it out.
His defensive mind is also another reason why we'll never win. If we don't play any defense or at least have some accountability, we'll never play defense good enough to win.
