Guys we have to put into consideration, s is all on flash memory right? And this version of OSX is really lightweight, possibly tablet level lightweight in terms of what you need to run it.


It's a weak processor compared to the other MacBooks, but what would you use this for?

If you have to do anything serious on it, you shouldn't even be considering it in the first place, the MBP should be an automatic for you.


This is something that is intended for casual use. What's the specs of an iPad air right now compared to this?

Retina screen, desktop grade OS, dual core processor, right?

This is that but in notebook form. The price is just higher.

the new MacBook is super dope. I would take my 2014 rMBP over it in a heartbeat though.

I might cop the space grey macbook to use as a second laptop just for portability purposes. I do agree that getting rid of thunderbolt was a silly idea though.

My 2010 macbook shuts off on me randomly and sometimes just won't come back up at all no matter what I do. Just gonna replace it with the new rmbp

They honestly should have given the Macbook Air a retina display and the new touchpad and upped the stats on the macbook line. I feel that it would have looked like less of a gimmick from Apple if it was executed in this fashion.

The air occupies that sub1000 spot that they'd have a hole for since they discontinued the MacBook.

I would have much rather it have been the air that got the retina screen also, but the price would have raised.


That would have made the air the same price as a MacBook pro, which isn't bad. But that would have caused issues for former air customers.


I think they should have done what was rumored and just chopped both the 11inch and 13inch airs and just had the 12 inch with retina and updated battery life + the color schemes.

If you have the same MBP as me, check Apple's trade in, they'll at least give you like $475 or something. The thing is that you know they will refurb it and sell for like $800-900 though.

Yeah that's where I just checked. 2012 base model non retina pro $189 trade in through apple

I just checked mine as well and they're giving me $340.  Mid 2012 MBP and I just purchased this last september.  thats buns. 

will the value you go down as I wait longer?

Thunderbolt is ACE for pro users, lets you push to a serious screen and offers the fastest connectivity for external drives. If you do anything that needs high speed scratch disks (film/photo editing) you've got needs that USB 2 or 3 just isn't going to meet.

mints I'm definitely going to switch up my MBP mainly due to its weight. Would you recommend the air or the new Mac that's coming out? Is the air going to be faster than the new Mac?


Edit: don't do much except homework with some online programs, movies and tv, only games i play is through emulators which are usually old school gameboy games and most importantly porn.

What do you need your mac for? If you're not currently or see yourself doing anything even semi-professional, I'd still keep the extra weight. If you're only doing light work, MBA, if you're just web browsing/writing papers that MacBook is great for light weight needs.

I used to be what you'd call a pro needs user, but my next laptop is for sure going to be a MacBook or MacBook Air.

Placed my order for a speced out MBP the day before the apple event and apple just informed me they will be shipping me the new MBP with the updated processor and the faster memory! Im stoked i didnt wanna have to go through the hassle of returning and reordering

What you need vents for on a mobile processor and flash memory.


There's no moving parts.

Your phone and tablets don't have vents. This is run ining a similar processor.


And just like mints said, my next notebook will be either this or an air.

A lot of people buy MBP's and don't even need one. Overcompensating for what they think they'll need. I used to be like that, and I develop. But For me personally, a spec'd out iMac is much better for home use and a smaller less powerful laptop for when I'm out.

Well they need something to upgrade on.

Next Macbook will have 2 ports and a 720p camera.

Apple is foul for doing this.

Core M chips run cooler which make it possible to go fanless. That being said, performance will take a hit.

If you're DJing you don't fit the target demographic for the new MB anyway, you'd probably be better off with a 13" MBP if you travel a lot, or a 15". Just be happy you're not lugging around 50lbs plus of vinyl. Hell most club setups now let you drop the gear you need down to a USB stick, although I'd carry a cd wallet and maybe 10 records just in case you have a hardware failure.
