But on topic. I saw a bunch of 2011 mbp with screen issues for cheap on ebay and thought I could make a come up on that. I'll just buy a used working one since the price would be the same after paying for new GPU.

I gave mine to the apple store and they sent it to texas to get fixed... but ya they gave me back the ram... but im scared to put it back in my mbp since now it actually works... so i dont want to mess with it...i was thinking of putting 8gig ram in there instead

^ I'm pretty sure putting that RAM back in there would be fine. You shouldn't have any problems.

Looking to upgrade from my current 13inch MBP (Mid 2010), because the screen is starting to do this more often:
parts of the screen flicker checkered patterns when i scroll on webpages etc. it might have something to do with the black plastic hinge area of the MBP being cracked, idk. Im way out of warranty so i guess replacement is my only option.
I'm leaning towards the refurbished 15inch Retina MBP (Oct 2013).
Anyone have experiences buying refurbished?
is 8GB of RAM good enough for my needs? (internet browsing, some RAW photo editing, occasional Final Cut Pro video editing)

@mints Thanks for the advice. I mostly would be editing on the go which is why an Air is the most appealing to me right now. I currently only use iMovie, etc for video editing and some other third party software, but eventually would like to get into Final Cut and Aperture to learn and use those instead. Guess I have some things to think about and consider, thanks!

I used Migration assistant when I switched over from PC last month. Very smooth and easy. I had to use an ethernet cord for mine but there may be something more efficient for mac to mac transfer.

Has this happened to anyone before? Not sure what's causing it but ever since I got my battery changed last month I started experiencing this issue. Happens when I minimize or close a window.

So I bought a 13" rmbp, 256gb open box along with the movers coupon came out to $1226, pretty good considering retail is $1500 and this one was returned because person wasn't aware they no longer have the built in SuperDrive

I would check Best Buy...and I suggest looking into Retina Macbook Pro. The 13" Non-Retina MBP hasn't been upgraded in over a year...It's bound to be discontinued in the near future.

I've rarely shut down my MacBook. The only times I've done that is if I needed to reboot or if I was traveling. There are articles online on when to charge your battery. I always charged when I hit 10%. Once it was 100%, I would unplug and run off the battery.
Google some of these topics, I'm sure there are sites and forums specifically for Macs that have more insight. I suggest macrumors.com

Copped a 15" MBP the other day. Took it to a video shoot today and transferred 119 gigs of RED camera footage to my desktop in 9 minutes. WOO USB3.0 + SSD.

I think Apple has an article on their site regarding battery charging. If I remember correctly it didn't say when to start charging your battery, but that you shouldn't leave it charging for an extended period of time after it hits 100%.
What I do is just leave it off the charger until it hits around 20%-10% and leave it plugged in for around an hour after it hits 100%. I've had it for a little over a year and I don't notice any diminished battery life compared to when I got it. I've accumulated around 260 battery cycles during that time.

Really? I've heard it's fine to leave it on charge when at 100% Just take it off every once in awhile. Told this by an apple rep
