Anyone have a site or list of macbook pro models that allow hdd and RAM upgrades? Looking into buying a new one. I have the late 2008 model with removable battery but I know they've removed it since.

The Non-Retina versions let you still get into them fairly easily as far as RAM and HDD go, the Retinas will let you change out the SSD with no problems, but the RAM usually come soldered onto the board on them now to make them thinner so you can't replace or upgrade after it's been shipped.

If i took my Ipod Classic to the apple store, would they refurbish it?

It'd be cheaper to take it some off brand place.

What exactly do you need done? Just the battery replaced or is the hard drive gone and you need to have that swapped too?

I'm still upset they got rid of the classic, if only because the price on them in decent shape shot up the moment apple pulled them off the site.

Battery mainly. Though I wouldn't mind having the case switched too. Thing is beat the **** up :lol

Dropped off my Mbp to get a new battery at the Apple store. They said it would take 3-5 days :x but when I went in the guy told me 24-48hrs. Its been an hour and I already can't stand not having it.

just dumped my Macbook Pro and got a AIr. couldnt be happier. Never knew these things were this seamless and quick

As I posted that I just got the call to pick it up!

How much it cost you? The battery in my pro is crap. Went from 46% to 7% in less than 20 min not even exaggerating

$129+tax for a 2011 15inch. The tech brought it out, turned it on and said everything was set then left. (Mine is out of warranty) Didn't charge me or anything but in their notes I think it said it was an accident or something. I could have left without paying for it but I stuck around since I had to adjust the clock...then he got me for the $129 :lol

I'm thinking about getting an Air next time. If they ever up the storage past 256GB then I'm in. The base 15" pro is just too damn expensive now.

Yeah that storage thing is what is preventing me I need that 500 GB or the option to upgrade it myself

^^ They have 512GB Airs. Adds $300 to the base price though :lol.

For those who had the 2011 MBP with faulty GPUs: did you have to pay to get it replaced at the Apple Store?

I feel you guys on the storage thing with the Airs. I had a 500GB Macbook pro and stuff but now Im just storing big things on my externals and not my main one.

Starting to getting into editing videos and my photography more and more and my 2008 black Macbook just ain't cutting it anymore :lol

You guys have any recommendations of which new Macbook to go with? Pro? or would the newer Airs be able to handle importing and editing better? For example, I borrow friends' GoPros to use when I do certain activities since I don't have my own and my current Macbook plays the video back sooo choppy that I have to downgrade the resolution and frame rate just to play it :x

So what's a good spec baseline to handle doing this stuff these days and where should I look for some good deals?

Thanks!

When you say editing video and playing with photography how serious are you getting into it? If you're just using iMovie and iPhoto for your work flows a MacBook Air with maxed out RAM should be able to handle things.

If you're getting serious and using the Final Cut Pro suite and Aperture to edit RAW images, then I'd suggest going with a Pro if only for the Retina screen. Video and large photos are going to eat up RAM so spend as much as you can on that, storage while important isn't as big a thing since you can just get a thunderbolt external that will be really fast and just like having it on the laptop. I'm assuming that you're not editing on the go, if you are then you should spend as much as you can on getting RAM and Storage space.

As for where to get deals, start stalking Slickdeals apple tab, if there's a deal to be had it'll show up on there. I'd also recommend you taking a look at the refurb stuff on apple.com, checking to see if your company has an arrangement with apple to get a discount on products, or if you're a student getting it through the apple educational discount.

Also if you know someone that works at apple (big stretch I know) see if they'll buy it for you, they get a discount once a year and already pay less for apple hardware.

Ran out of space on my 64gb Touch. I have a 160gb Classic laying around but the hd needs replacement. Cheapest place to get that done? 8o

I recently bought a '13 MacBook air. The only thing is the screen is stained from the keyboard. Can I take it to Apple to have the screen replaced and how much would that be? Does the Apple Store do that or can I go to a tech store and have it done?

my macbook was messed up so they had to replace the logic board... as soon as i logged in my mac the screen went blank and i couldnt get to my desktop... apple ended up fixing it but it costs 310... kinda expensive but better than buying a new laptop... i had 16gig ram in there and they replaced it with the 4gig ram now my macbook cant multitask for jack and freezes a lot but still manageable... they said my ram wasnt the official apple one so they replaced it... i got the 2011 early version 15in mbp
