just got a MBP, can anyone drop me some info on the hard shell cases. I was interested in getting one (to avoid scratches and such) but I've read some reviews about them causing the macbooks to over heat?

I have a black Specks case that I ordered with my MBP for $50 and it made my laptop feel hot. I took off the bottom part (Kept the top) since I usually use it on my bed anyway and it hasn't been heating up ever since.

My MBP has been suspiciously slow for the past week, is there something I can do about it? I'm going to read articles I saw from the "Do not install MacKeeper" discussion on Apple.com after I post this but more help would be awesome.

Also, when is the new software update going to be available? I have my doubts about Lion and Mountain Lion.

Thanks!

I got the clear speck case. its well built, feels sturdy and protective. You will need to take it off and clean it regularly since dust and dirt gets trapped underneath.

I don't like it though, i stopped using it after about a month. it makes my 15" laptop heavier than I would like. it also makes my laptop way warmer than I would like, and i run a lot of programs that use up a lot of resources so you could imagine it will get hot on regular use.

I just said **** the resell value, the computer is aluminum anyways, not plastic so its not like it will crack from decent bumps. i just have some nicks and scratches, no dents. so if you take care of you're stuff you should be fine. plus if you drop it the hard shell cases might even cause a harder fall and provide little to no shock protection.

If you just use web, email, itunes etc, then i would imagine it would be fine for you since your computer won't heat up much at all from those simple tasks

you might want to look into an invisible shield, a lighter thinner alternative. i should have done that from the beginning.

Not sure if this has been posted, but I would highly recommend this for ALL Macbook owners. Great for keeping your laptop from getting hot.

So i literally just copped an 13" Air last night. I absolutely love this thing. Mainly because I was using a freaking netbook for the last 2 years of college. :{

I'm beyond blown away by the weight (or lack thereof) and just copping a Mac finally.

Couple of questions, though

  • Can anyone point me in the direction of any online tutorials on customization methods (docks, icons, wallpapers)? I'm gonna go peruse the "post your desktop" thread, in the meantime
  • I'm on Mountain Lion so i noticed iChat became just Messages. So does this mean, you can't video chat (in an iChat manner) anymore? Would i just have to use Skype or whatever?

I'm turning into an Apple fanboy, cuz i'm getting the iP5 in a matter of hours. :lol

Yea I'm on the fence, I mean the air is OD light so I guess it won't be bad in bed, but it's clutch on the toilet even though I could use my phone. I use my 15in Mbp like at my desk so it's pretty much like a desktop lol
I plan on going to grad school in the near future too so air is clutch for that even though I can do same on iPad.
Idk mane I'm on the fence lol I'm not dropped the 3k for them anytime soon so oh well

lucky you should get a reliable car for grad school before a 3k machine

but thats just me

just got my MBA 13", one question though. Do you guys prefer it to be plugged in most of the time (then discharge/charge once a month)? would it hurt the battery? thanks

anyone know if I update to mountain lion will my dock icons change back to their default icons or will they stay the same? 8o

BTW I changed my icons not via candybar but by hitting "Command I" and changing the icon pic through there.

I've had my MBP for over 2 years now and I've had no problems whatsoever.

But recently, especially during the use of Safari it occasionally freezes, it needs to reload all the pages, the wheel comes up and so on. ANy tips that can help me?
thanks

Can someone help me with putting my local whether forecast on my desktop using geektools? Can't figure it out for the life of me.

About to upgrade my mid 2009 MBP to a 2012 15" MBP, but I'm not sure if the retina display is worth it?
I'll be using it mainly for school (writing code in VMware fusion), any suggestions? Thanks :smokin

08 macbook here...it's taken a beating but thinking of getting a new one...I kinda like the Air cause I travel a lot and it helps not having any moving parts moving around in my carryon. MBA...is it worth it or should I get an MB..MBP

macbook air is nice but you can get a macbook pro for the same price or cheaper and it has better value as far as specs and being able to upgrade parts

Thanks.

Here's what I've purchased so far:

Fantastical: Cool Calendar app that parses regular sentences into an event on your calendar. For example, I just type "Movies at 9:00pm this monday" and it'll create the event on my calendar. You can even do reoccuring events like "Gym every monday at 5:00 pm."

Pages: Basically like Microsoft Word.

Screen Shade: Even the lowest brightness setting on a Macbook is still pretty bright, so I got this to help me set it a little lower.

Caffeine: Keeps your MB from going to sleep. Simple and effective.

Limbo: Cool little puzzle-platform game.

Air Attack: Alright game. I don't ever play it, but it's fine if you're looking for a game like this.

The Unarchiver: To extract rar files.

I'm thinking of buying a mbp and I'm in college. Should I buy the 2012 13" lower end model for $999 or wait for retina version? I assume 13" retina would be $1499 and up. I also don't know how long I'll have to wait till it comes out.
