If that's mold, you can mix some white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray directly on shoes (moldy area) and let it air dry then wipe them and it should take care of that.

Happened to my black social status penny 2 after some flooding but the vinegar mix got rid of all the mold.

Honestly... idk that I'd hold onto shoes covered in mold. I get it but also... what're the chances of really getting rid of ALL of it (even the unseen mold)

What Zen_Griffey24 says is absolutely true, except I always add a drop or two of blue Dawn dish soap in with the water and vinegar, and I wipe the shoe doen with a rag or paper towel dipped in the solution. I deal with mold in my basement sneaker room occasionally and I was amazed at how quickly and easily they clean up. Most important thing I can recommend, though, is get a dehumidifier for the space and monitor that humidity level. Keep it at 55-60% tops.

Sooooo last year we bought a new house and I was pumped to have a nice big new space to keep my hundreds of pairs of sneakers. We moved in during the spring, and my dopey self didn't realize just how humid my dark basement sneaker room actually was until the fall, at which point I immediately put in a dehumidifier. I also haven't really worn the vast majority of my shoes during COVID, because I've barely left my house for 16 mos.

Well, in case you don't know, dark + cool + humid + sneakers =

(The black inside the sneaker on the lining is sock fuzz, btw - not funky mold lol)

Thankfully, a little vinegar/water mixture, a few minutes of effort and a quick brushing later, this is how they turned out:

Could probably use another quick touch-up, but not bad at all.

Problem is I'm gonna have to do this for probably 50-100 of my pairs that are on the bottom shelves of my racks

Honestly brother, be thorough with your clean inside and out. Personally, I wouldn't even chance it.

That stuff can get into your socks, under your nails and create more issues than it's worth.
