THE OFFICIAL AIR MAX 1 THREAD

finished my sole swap of 2004 newspapers. i bought them DS and they crumbled shortly after. heres a brief chronology of the swap for you geeks out there.

salvaged and pulled the outsole.

here you can see the crumble. very disheartening feeling.

boiled off the midsoles. some experts will say use acetone to do this, but i have ruined some uppers with acetone, so boiling water is a safer bet. the old glue just melts away.

glued salvaged outsole to prepped donors.

preliminary mock up. what youre not seeing here is the leg work to make the uppers sit flush. requires some shaving of the insole with a dremel. new midsoles sit really high which is why we see a bulkier look to current am1s. once a good height is established, the gluing process ensues.

glued the upper to midsole. a lot of youtube restorers just show you the glamorous side to the process as if 1 shot is all it takes. ive found theres a laborious process thereafter where you need to close up small seams to get a factory finish, which requires a lot of taping, adding glue to open seams with a needle etc. below you can see how the seams are close, but not hella tight. i know some of you nerds would get out of pocket with a microscope and say the tolerance isnt .000000000000001, and send it back.

still not tight enough.

so you have to continue the process until you can get the edges really snugged up.

IMO, the toe cap is the hardest to work with and with this particular toecap, the rubber is super rigid. after a couple attempts and being dissatisfied with how it sat on the mudguard, i brainstormed and figured something out. how about we mold it into place.

notice the difference in the starting position of the toecap. better position means less fighting of the adherence of the glue.

two coats of flat white, 3 coats of joker green in the air unit, 1 coat of finisher later and we have a wearable pair of newspapers.

guys thank you for taking the time to read this.

A seller on eBay cancelled my order for Royals, said that the size 12 had quite a few blemishes and they apologize and said they didn't want to send them in what is an unacceptable condition. Hunt continues.

StockX for the W. Lowest BIN price for size 12 was $174 plus used my wife's card for the $20 off first order for $166. Reasonable price for my size and peace of mind. So sick of looking and glad to put this release behind me. Rezet has decent sizes but over 200 shipped to US. If you can swallow that pill https://rezetstore.dk/nike-air-max-1-anniversary-white-game-royal-neu-1579507.

StockX hasn't let me down yet and happy w the price. This drop does seem to be selling out quicker than the Reds especially in sizes 11 1/2 to 13 which are like Unicorns this drop.

unseen unseen Nice work. I’ve done this, very tedious work requiring lots of patience and attention to detail. Documenting it must have been a huge PITA.

END order came in, these are great, blows the 2009 release out of the water IMO (the older versions look like fakes now). Laces are more like a nylon material than fabric, not sure if that's a new thing or not (haven't picked up an AM in a while).

And def TTS, was thinking about going 1/2 size down, but the inner padding on these are pretty thick.

Edit: thanks babyjs23 for posting the END raffle link

What kind of glue did you use on the toecaps?
