There are some SS that would immeditaly throw to 3rd base in that situation.
They sure as hell aren't Major Leaguers.

Going home is the only play; that's where the run is scored. The objective on that play is to keep the runner from scoring, not to get him out.

Or attempt to get the guy out at 1st.
With Denard Span running, and the other runner rounding third? Yeah, no.
