The NBA Draft Thread

Don't really agree with that mock but it's nice to see something different than Fultz-Ball-Jackson-Tatum for the 99th time

This gone be one of those drafts where I feel like it's totally unpredictable.. GM's gonna make some surprise picks in the top 10. First gotta wait for the first domino to fall which is the draft order

Monk looked pretty damn solid playing defense on Justin Jackson yesterday who's 6-7 inches taller than him.

It's going to be because of the point guards. It wouldn't shock me if some GMs had say, Dennis Smith and/or Fox over Ball. Would shake things up.

Based on what?

Throughout his career his teams performed better defensively when he was off the floor.

What does that even mean tho? Lindsey Hunter guarded Kareem rush better than rip guarded Kobe? Not even saying you're necessarily wrong but those type of stats don't really tell you anything

I also contend that Jackson and Tatum could shake things up depending if Jackson falls or if someone "reaches" for Tatum. Scouts/analysts have long said Tatum is a top 3 talent, so who knows what GM's are thinking

Then there's Isaac, who I could totally see as going as high as 3 and as low as 10. Where he's selected is anyone's guess

IMO, Fultz and Jackson are locks for the top 3. Fultz for obvious reasons, but Jackson is also a perfect fit for the Celtics, Lakers and Suns. Would be absolutely shocked to see him fall.

Why does everyone have Tatum going to the Magic? Is Ross, Gordon, Jeff Green, Hezonja not enough wing scorers who basically do the same thing at this point.

Dennis Smith should be their pick. Elfrid is a good player, just not a long term option.

Hunter was a part time player for Detroit, was inactive for large chunks of each year. He wasn't influencing too many stats. Don't remember Rip being the primary defender on Kobe or any premier threat either. He would usually give Tay breaks here & there

Point being, even if you throw that out, Hamilton was a solid team defender within Detroit's scheme, strictly off effort. He didn't have off the charts instincts or measurables like Prince. He just bought into the team's culture & tried his *** off. That's nothing Monk can't do.

Gordon is their 4 and Jeff Green is an unrestricted free agent. Hezonja has been meh. Ross is a solid player.

Just seems like Tatum makes more sense than picking another PG that can't shoot. I could see them going DSJ over both Fox and Tatum.

Yea I dont understand the Rip defense narrative. That team's defense as a whole made him look a lot better if anything.

By the Rip x Monk comparison I meant that they score a majority of their points coming off screens. Monk is an elite shooter coming off screens. Damn near picture perfect. So was Rip.

They just had Tobias (who i highly doubt Tatum will be better than) and that didnt really work out. DSJ is probably the second best shooting PG in this draft. The he cant shoot narrative is blown out of proportion. He definitely has a respectable shot that will get better. He does everything better than Payton outside of play defense imo.

That's a problem I'd like to have
You like that fit with Simmons? I'm all about best player available and I fully believe Fox and Smith can be exceptional starters down the road. Being that Simmons is such a unique player, it's fascinating to see how Philly will build the team

I really think Philly has to go with Monk. With how well Simmons sees the floor and the ball being in his hands the entire time, Embiid cant be the best shooter on the court.

Man if only they get the Lakers pick :{ :eek

I just think all of these top guards are such good prospects that I wouldn't be mad at selecting any of them. I think Fox and Smith are both better shooters than people think and they'll only improve in that area.

I would love to get that Lakers pick but with Magic being named GM I can smell it from a mile away they're going to be handed the #1 pick this year. If they lose this pick it would set them back like 5 more years basically.
